RE: Dawn Dishsoap For Fleas
Go to Dollar General, they have lice killing shampoo in two bottle packages for around 8.00.it contains pyrethrins, a natural insecticide derived from chrysanthemums. Bathe your cat by diluting the shampoo and rubbing it into her fur well, then submerse her into a fairly amount of warm water, rinse her off, and do not rinse her again. This will not only kill the fleas, it will keep them off for several weeks.

I know this because I have a very old, blind, infirm Eskimo Spitz who I love dearly, and would be afraid to use any sort of medication or chemical on, because his skin is also tender from age. I have been using this method on him, and he is just fine.

You can also use the garden center variety of liquid intended to spray for aphids on roses -which is also pyrethrins-in the washer for bedding, and in your carpet shampooer to rid your home of the fleas. I know this will help her and you, feel better. ... View related article.

RE: Surviving Family Thanksgiving
And a man and wife should leave their mother and father, and cleave one to another, isn't that what God says? I think I would trust his judgment in the matter. You are your husband's family now,and Mom may choose to be a guest when invited, or not. That is her option. If she chooses to be a guest, be as accommodating as possible and attempt to make her comfortable in your home. That is your duty as hostess.

Her duty as a guest is to be as flexible as possible in adapting to the household she is a guest in, and avoid being disruptive. Therefore, put the cats away where they can still stay warm and dry, and have non-drowsy antihistamines available for your guest who may still have a problem (Better yet, give her the sedating Benadryl- things will probably be a lot more peaceful ! Wink!). ... View related article.

RE: Embellishing A Wedding Dress
Four words,sweetie:Thrift shop,and Wonder under.

You can take the lace off a second hand wedding dress from a thrift shop, gently hand wash it, and apply it to the dress you purchase. Use wonder under, an iron-on type of fixative, which comes on a stiff white backing paper. When you follow the directions and iron it on, it will be absolutely undetectable. And the real wonder under is super durable. I have washed items in the washing machine that I had attached trim to,using it. The trim never came loose.

Then use the pearls, beads and sequins, and even the overlay material from the thrift shop dress to create your vision.
Glue the beads and pearls ,and if you have leftover beading, pearls, etc., you can use them to trim the bottom of your veil,or in your veil comb. You can also use the lace from the old dress on your veil!just use the wonder under to apply it there as well. The netting will hold up to the heat of the iron.

How do I know? When my husband and I renewed our vows after years of marriage,we had six kids in attendance, and little money, so Mama got busy, and the dress was beautiful! Here's a tiny glimpse.http://www.myspace.com/gloriajhayes
The lace you see appliqued on the dress and veil are done with wonder under, and the netting trimmed away behind the lace.

If you take the overlay skirt off the old dress and leave the lace on the bottom of it as is and cut to the length you want from the top, where the overlay was stitched to the dress, you won't have to do a lot of extra work.Just attach each layer to your dress, starting with the bottom layer and working your way up the skirt of your dress.
Then you will be abiding by the old adage; something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue! Old lace, new dress, a love that is true-blue, and great ideas from the girls of thrifty fun! Be blessed! ... View related article.

RE: Dog Biting Tail and Scratching His Back
I have an 11 year old Spitz who suffered horribly with the same thing, but I finally cured it. First of all,he is probably allergic to fleas. I tested mine by giving him an oral flea medicine from the vet (30.00 per month), and the itching and crying out stopped.Medicine wore off, right back to scratching and yelping. Medicine, no fleas, no scratching, again.
I couldn't afford to keep the medicine up for all three dogs, so I found a homemade solution from Dollar General: Two-packs of lice treatment shampoo!

I trimmed the hair at his lower back and tail, rubbed plenty of the shampoo in very well (the fleas had already bedded because the fur there is so thick) and left the shampoo on for about five minutes. Then I put him in the bathtub with about 4 inches of water: enough to rinse the concentrated shampoo out,and dilute it into the water. Then I used this same water as a flea dip. Result? No more whining and scratching, and he can lie around and sleep in peace, as any old gentleman prefers to do. Cost? maybe two dollars ... RE: Cleaning Varnished Wood
There is a product called greased litnin'.I guarentee it will clean it, but do not let it sit too long, as it may dull the shine. It is a pump spray, and smells and works like oven cleaner. You shouldn't have to scrub. Dollar General sells it; white bottle with yellow and black labeling. ... View related article.

RE: Motorcycle Club Christmas Float Ideas: Theme "Storybook Christmas"
You could make the float Santa's workshop and barn, use materials to turn the motorcycles into reindeer, and have a stuffed reindeer with a red nose on the float, with Santa talking to and petting him, asking "Won't you guide my sleigh tonight?" Then have that phrase on the sleigh somewhere where people can read it. A fog machine would be wonderful! ... View related article.
