| RE: My Frugal Life: Recession? What Recession? |
Whoa!
I can see a Flame Wars in the making. My husband and I are fortunate that we have not really been hard hit by the recession, we have lost $ from our investments. I'd like to say this all is in spite of me, not because of me. I've become increasingly aware that to get want is simple is as simple as waning what I have. Suze Orman is my new role model.
There are many ways to pare down on expenses and so called necessities. I must admit, that I too have no sympathy for those that cry "broke" and squander money on needless things. I know people who spend money daily on Starbucks and cigarettes, manicures, massages, etc. who can not make ends meet.
But there definitely is a recession that is hurting lots of people. I try to help those innocents. BTW, I work full time, as well as my husband. I think its great that there are some people who are so frugal they can live without worries. That does not come without effort and hard work. ... View related article. |

| RE: Mikata's Japanese Restaurant Style Salad Dressing |
I found these 2 on-line...I've never heard of this dressing, but it intrigues me--seems great for my WW Plan!
Mikatas Japanese Steakhouse Honey Mustard Dressing' 10 min prep-2 servings ingredients: 1 tablespoon honey 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard or stone ground mustard 3 tablespoons balsamic vinegar, to taste 1 whole peppercorn, optional (Black, white, green and or or pink)

| RE: Inexpensive Silicone Oven Mitts |
I got mine at COSTCO. I don't have the price, but I know they must have been relatively cheap because I don't buy these type of things. Why not check Creaigslist or E-Bay? Now that you mention it, I will probably sell mine on Craigslist. E-bay is good too, but sometimes the shipping is sky high! Also check the feedback on the sellers and use PAYPAL to purchase. It will save you lots of headaches! ... View related article. |

| RE: Using a Cake Mix That's Expired |
I really think that if it was fatal to use expired cake mixes they would have a warning; "don't use past expiration date". Expiration dates are relatively "new". We didn't have them when I was growing up. My mother had so many cake mixes around none of us ever got ill. Just don't eat LEMON PLEDGE. Read the warning label! ... View related article. |

| RE: Freezing Homemade Foods for Wedding |
What I've done in the past is to make a lot of miniature popovers. These freeze very well. You can add whatever whets your imagination. You can use chicken, tuna and egg salad-for desserts whipped cream and other tasty items. And yes, you can freeze fudge. As others have stated, simply wrap well.
I hope the wedding turns out lovely!
Cheers,

| RE: Frugal Christmas Gift Ideas |
I have to agree that buying for multiple people can be overwhelming. Too, it takes the joy and meaning out of Christmas. Lets face it. Most people buy what they want, when they want it. Kids are picky about clothing, music, make-up and toys. The last few years we've sent FRUIT BASKETS, but that gets so expensive and is a real hassle. We had several people not getting their baskets, or getting bad fruit. The bottom line is this...(remind me to adhere to it please). Notify friends and family that you don't need any gifts and that it would be much saner not to do the entire gift exchange. I think having friends and family over for a cup of wassail may be a good idea, but that is it. It goes without saying that "grandma", will receive a gift. There again, I usually get her some kind of delicacy she would not purchase for herself. Otherwise, she'd sell it in her weekly yard sale. :) ... View related article. |

| RE: Simple, Quick Appetizers and Finger Foods |
My Ultimate favorite is PIGS IN BLANKETS. They can be made ahead of time, frozen, then popped in the oven! Use the little hot dogs that come in packs of 50. (Hillshire are the ones that I am familiar with). Get CRESCENT ROLLS, whatever is least expensive. With the dough really cold, I undo each triangle and cut them into 3rds or even 4ths. Roll them around the hot dogs, thickest side of the dough first. Bake per the manufactures instructions for the rolls.
No if you want to make these ahead of time, FREEZE the rolled piggies without baking them. Then bake at the temperature recommended.
I find that putting these on a rack a tad higher then middle prevents the bottoms from burning. Also Keep an eye on them while they are baking. Each often bakes a bit differently and you don't want to burn them.
Enjoy-hope this helps. ... View related article. |

| RE: Dollar Stores Don't Always Have The Best Deal |
Good point, Carol! Another thing, make sure the "DOLLAR STORES" that you go to are really just a buck! (I like dollar tree).
I get really good deals @ my dollar store. Greeting cards are 2 for $1.00, gift bags are inexpensive and the smaller ones come in lots of 2 or 3.
I did get cheese spread, (like but not WISPRIDE) it was so bad my dogs or husband would not eat it!
All in all the $ store can have good bargains, but you have to watch what you get! ... View related article. |
