I have left my crockpot on while at work all day and as long as there is plenty of liquid in it, its fine. A low setting is best so it doesn't boil over. If you have left it while you were at home with no problems, I would not worry about an older one being left alone.
The first time I left a roast in the crock pot all day, in my very first crock pot in my very first apartment I came home to a hockey puck! Live and Learn :)

I have done this too! I tried a baking soda paste (baking soda and a little water mixed together) and rubbed it on, let it sit for an hour or so and much of the stain came off. I tried toothpaste, too and that worked a little, but I still did not get the stains completely off.

How small are the mirrors? You can mosaic with them onto a flower pot or a flat stepping stone along with other small tiles or glass beads. I have used super glue to fasten the items and then used tile grout (directions are on the container) to finish it. I have seen bowling balls mosaic-ed and they turn out looking like a garden gazing ball.
Also, depending on how old the kids are, ask THEM to brain storm some ideas, they will surprise you.

you could try mixing them in a trail mix with dried fruits, rasins, chocolate chips, or whatever you like. You could also try them as a substitute for baked goods that call for peanuts.

Wow, this site is really frugal. Some things are OK to throw away, like bacon grease.
And since dogs are carnivores, isn't some meat OK for them? I typically give my dog 4 small bites of whatever meat we are having for dinner and mix it with her dry food, she loves that.

OK, I called my vet and they said that there is a very low risk for my dog to get heartworm here (Laramie, WY) and that they have not had any cases yet this year. Also, since it will probably freeze here in a few weeks that will kill off most of the mosquitoes. AND, they will be having a heart worm clinic in May and I can go to that to get her screened and then on meds for next summer. Thank you all for the advice!

Interesting thoughts, thank you. The vet has never said anything about giving her heartworm medication. Is that something they would tell me to give her if I needed to? I will ask her soon, she is in my book club!
