| RE: Softening Powdered Sugar |
|
I don't know any tricks to soften it. Have you tried one of those clay disks that you can use with brown sugar? One idea might be to try using a hand grater to get it back down to a powdery texture.... You might try a blender or spice/coffee ginder etc., but I am not sure what that would do to it (at the higher speed than manual). You could always try with a small sample and see what happens! ... | RE: Cold Water Can Be Too Cold to Get Clothes Clean |
Hi there,
Just curious if the article mentioned whether this only applies to powdered detergent?
I've been washing in cold only for 20+ years, but switched to liquid many years ago. I used to noticed white powdery marks on my clothes (especially dark/black), so I could see how that might clog up pipes and not properly wash the clothes.

| RE: Recipes for a Mini Crockpot |
Just wanted to reply to T&T Grandma... They do actually still make/sell mini crockpots. In fact, I just bought a brand new stainless full-size one and it came with a bonus mini one in the box. I understand the one purchased from the Goodwill may be old and perhaps should not be used for food, but this should not discourage anyone with a new one.
I plan to use my Crockette (love that name) for cheese foundue, but will be checking out those websites posted by Cat Lady, as normally I am just cooking for two of us and don't always need the large crockpot. ... View related article. |

| RE: Dodge Caravan's Electric Windows Stopped Working |
I have a Dodge Dakota and only my passenger side is not working. Luckily I can still control it with the driver's side. I have been avoiding asking them about it, as I figure they'd have to take the entire door apart etc. : P
Not that this will help you, but I had to chuckle at your comment about both motors failing at 15,000. My husband jokes that they have a way to monitor your mileage remotely and they flick a switch for your engine light to go on when it reaches a certain amount. LOL Just last week I got the automated call to come in for an oil change, and the very next day my engine light came on. Too bad it cost more than an oil change to fix it!! : )
Hope your repairs aren't too costly! Tina ... View related article. |

| RE: Tips for Organizing and Cleaning Basement |
Such great advice already!
I just wanted to suggest something a bit radical. If the majority of the stuff in your basement belongs to your roommate and not you, then propose that your roommate rent some storage space. It's a real wake-up call when you start thinking about whether your stuff is worth paying to store every month.
We are currently contemplating down-sizing within the next 6 months, and moving about 7 hours away. We currently own a home and are probably going to rent an apartment for a while. Once you start thinking how much it will cost to move or store an item, your perspective on whether to keep something really changes.
Good Luck!! Tina in Oshawa, Ontario
Oh yes, one other suggestion is to check out the professional organizing sites for tips.
There are tons, but here are some tips from NAPO (National Association of Professional Organizers) http://www.napo.net/public/tips.html ... View related article. |

| RE: Filly On A Foggy Morning |
What a gorgeous shot!! You must feel so lucky to have such a beautiful view from your kitchen window.
BTW: I even know where Arthur is! I used to go up there on weekends, where a friend of mine was a skydiving instructor. Now I live in Oshawa... not quite as lovely scenery. : )

| RE: Turn Hot Water Heater Off When Leaving |
|
I would think you would not want to follow this tip IF you have a gas water heater. A few weeks ago my hubby was doing some renovation work in the laundry room and unplugged our gas water heater. A while later I told him I could smell gas in the house. He has a terrible sense of smell and kept insisting it must be coming from outside or perhaps it was some cleaner bottle that had broken when he was moving things around. We both went out for the day, and when we got home noticed we had no hot water. It was then he remembered having unplugged the water heater. This was 8 hours later! The gas smell was quite strong ny then, so we had to open all the windows and clear the air. Thankfully we had gone out and nothing worse happened.... ... View related article. |
