RE: Buddy (Miniature Dachshund)
Buddy is adorable. I have 4 doxies - 3 "tweenies" and 1 mini. One looks like Buddy and is going on 15 years old. Oscar and Dutch are brown and Rusty is red. The last one came to us from a family that lost their home and Rusty just loves to play with him. They are so smart and lovable, but just like potato chips, you can't have just one.

I have to upload some more recent pictures but here's Rusty. ... View related article.

RE: Homemade Carrot Cake Recipes
This is the copycat recipe for the Sara Lee Carrot Cake. I have tried quite a few carrot cake recipes but this one is really good (and I am so picky)! You can always double the recipe and make two cakes.

Sara Lee's Carrot Square Cake Recipe
2 Eggs
1 teaspoon Vanilla
6 ounces Oil
1 teaspoon Salt
1-1/2 teaspoons Baking powder
2 teaspoons Cinnamon
1 cup Sugar
1-1/4 cups All-purpose flour
1 cup Carrots -- grate fine
1 cup Walnuts -- well-chopped
1/2 cup Light raisins

Cream Cheese Icing
6 ounces Cream cheese - softened
1/4 pound Butter
1 pound Powdered sugar
1-1/2 teaspoons Orange extract
1 teaspoon orange peel
1 tablespoon Light corn syrup or pancake syrup
1 tablespoon Cornstarch or flour

Combine first 8 ingredients with electric mixer on medium-high. Beat 3 minutes scraping down sides of bowl often. Remove beaters. Stir in last 3 ingredients. Grease and flour 9" square pan. Spread batter evenly in pan. Bake at 325 about 50 minutes. Cool in pan about 30 minutes.
Frost with Cream Cheese Frosting and sprinkle with additional walnuts.

Icing: Cream the cream cheese with the butter until light and fluffy, using med-high speed of electric mixer. Add half of the sugar, increasing speed to high. Add extract and peel and beat about 1 minute. Scrape down sides of bowl often. Resume beating adding remaining powdered sugar. Beat smooth. Frost sides and top of cake. ... View related article.

RE: Keeping Squirrels From Eating Wooden Stairs
I very recently ordered this product to stop the squirrels that get in my walnut tree. I haven't gotten it yet but it's organic, guaranteed effective and not expensive. It looks like this would be easy for the man to spray on his steps. I have dogs and they hate the squirrels but they also get in the tree from the roof of my house. I'm to the point of probably getting the tree cut down soon if something doesn't work!

RE: Coca Cola Chicken
You are absolutely right about the carbonated soda! I've used it in a spicy rib recipe I have and it works great. Thanks for the chicken recipe. It's so nice and easy I'm going to try it this weekend. ... View related article.

RE: Moist Carrot Cake Recipe
This is a copy-cat recipe of Sara Lee's Carrot Cake. I have a few different carrot cake recipes but I have to say this was really good. I made the icing without the orange peel because I don't care for that.

Sara Lee's Carrot Square Cake Recipe
2 Eggs
1 teaspoon Vanilla
6 ounces Oil
1 teaspoon Salt
1-1/2 teaspoons Baking powder
2 teaspoons Cinnamon
1 cup Sugar
1-1/4 cups All-purpose flour
1 cup Carrots -- grate fine
1 cup Walnuts -- well-chopped
1/2 cup Light raisins

CREAM CHEESE ICING
6 ounces Cream cheese - softened
1/4 pound Butter
1 pound Powdered sugar
1-1/2 teaspoons Orange extract
1 teaspoon Spice Island orange peel
1 tablespoon Light corn syrup or pancake syrup
1 tablespoon Cornstarch or flour

Combine first 8 ingredients with electric mixer on medium-high. Beat 3 minutes scraping down sides of bowl often. Remove beaters. Stir in last 3 ingredients. Grease and flour 9" square pan. Spread batter evenly in pan. Bake at 325 about 50 minutes. Cool in pan about 30 minutes.
Frost with Cream Cheese Frosting and sprinkle with additional walnuts .

RE: Finding Good Chestnuts for Roasting
In our local supermarket they sell the chestnuts loose and you can "pick" through them and buy as much as you want. At this time of year, maybe you might find them in your local supermarket. I don't know if it makes any difference but I'm in Phila., PA. ... View related article.

RE: Cigarette Smoke Coming From My Neighbor's Yard
If you can afford it, look at the Ionic Breeze Air Purifiers on the Shaper Image website. If you check the products listed under "Outlet" they offer reconditioned air purifiers at about 1/3 of the normal price. I bought an office size one for my desk at work because I am severly allergic to perfume. It works like a charm. I'm sure you could get one you could put by the window that would take care of the smoke. Good luck. ... View related article.

RE: Housebreaking Litter Trained Dachshunds
Marieaa has the best suggestion. Since they are used to going in a litter box, stay with that (inside and outside) until they learn to go outside. Always praise them and tell them why they are going out. I have 3 doxies and we have a doggie door so that when I'm not home they can go outside into the smaller yard that I had fenced off just for them. If you can put a doggie door in, you will wonder what you ever did without one! Once they learn that they can go out whenever they want, you will have trouble keeping them in. They just love to be nosey and see what's going on in the neighborhood. ... View related article.

RE: Making Your Own Baking Mix
Here is a recipe I saved for "Master Mix" from Mary Hunt's Everyday Cheapskate website. You can substitute Master Mix for any recipe calling for Bisquick, substituting water for any milk required in the recipe and vice versa. I must admit though that I've never personally tried it.

MASTER MIX
5 pounds all-purpose flour
2-1/2 cups dry milk
3/4 cup double acting baking powder
2 tablespoons cream of tartar
3 tablespoons salt
1/2 cup sugar
4-2/3 cups solid vegetable shortening

Sift dry ingredients together. Cut in shortening until mix looks like cornmeal. Store at room temperature in Tupperware. Makes 30 cups.

RE: Pool Party Food Ideas
I just copied this recipe today from Tried N' True recipes and it sounds like it would be ideal for your party. It sounds yummy!

FLUFFY FRUIT DIP

Combine all ingredients and beat on high until well
blended. Add more extract to taste. Serve with
your favorite fresh fruits. For best results, cool in
