RE: Drugstore Beauty Products
I have used witch hazel as a "toner" for years as have my mom and aunts before me. The idea of using conditioner as both shaving cream and as body lotion is another I have also used, but these ideas came out of sheer necessity since we never could afford those "pricey" items before OR after the babies arrived. I thought I was an oddball for using the products I had in more ways than one, but now I see that others, like yourself are doing so as well...thank God...and thanks for helping others to understand that truly we can make do with what we have and still get great results!
Kind Regards,
Ursula

RE: Deli Potato Salad Recipe
This sounds very much like a VEGETARIAN potato salad...you might want to look online for a recipe or check out some vegetarian cookbooks.
Wish I could be more help. Good luck. ... View related article.

RE: Cooking For My Truck Driver Husband
My mother taught me to do this very same thing many years ago when I was first starting out on my own, in my own apartment with a full time job. Often, after much overtime, it would be nearly midnight before I arrived home and those frozen, pre-cooked meals made my life so much easier, where, without these I would probably have gone without eating dinner as I was just too tired to cook after nearly 10 hours at work and another 2 hours (or more if delays) on the subway. Eating out was not an option for me so this saved me much money. I would often take these frozen meals in a thermal sack to work and keep refrigerated and at lunch would simply pop the portion into the microwave for a few minutes. Viola, hot lunch!
By the way, those weekends when I'd not much on my agenda would be spent cooking up these meals, getting them ready for the week(s) ahead. After having children, this was a wonderful way to spend even more time with the kids during the week after school, rather than cooking. Often, the kids and I would cook these meals up together on the weekends...great way to spend even MORE time together! Well, I hope everyone enjoys this tip. ... View related article.

RE: Dishwasher Soap Reviews
Anyone have any suggestions for household brands and products NOT tested on animals? Most products, for bath, body and household are tested on animals by having them drink these many products, everything from cleaners to perfumes and lotions which are literally poured down an animal's throat and poured in their eyes, all so the manufacturer can attest whether or not they are "harmful to humans"!!!....This testing is done mostly on unwanted cats and dogs from shelters or kidnapped from our homes. It's just awful and it goes on continuously! I wish more folks would use products NOT tested on animals. Even "Bath and Body works" products claim on their products: "finished product not tested on animals" What does this mean? It means that some or most of the ingredients are still tested on animals??
I am currently researching companies and products that absolutely DO NOT animal test. One of them is "Seventh Generation", who for years has come through for those of us who are truly concerned about animal welfare. I will inform everyone of other companies when I come across them. BUT, Be aware: Just because a company CLAIMS their products are NOT tested on animals does not mean this is the case. Many companies have lied about this, claiming no animal testing is done because the fact is, currently there is no law in effect which requires they back up their statements to the public. It is something that must be acknowleged and if all you ladies and gents love your pets and any animals, then you must realize the heavy price THEY are paying for OUR selfish vanity and convenience!
Thank you for allowing me to share.

RE: Oiling the Cupboard Doors
That's sweet. My mom is 89 and she and I have used cooking oil for the very same things. As she still often tells me and it is so true: "...what did people use BEFORE they had all of these other products...we did with what we had!" And if only people today would realize this, we would appreciate alot more than we do and stop taking so many things for granted. God Bless your mom....and mine. ... View related article.
