RE: Painting Plastic Trim on Steel Door
Plastic is just like most surfaces, it requires the correct primer before you can paint it. If it is really shiny I would recommend that you sand it down a bit to dull the sheen. Go to your local paint store or big box and get a primer recommended for plastic, then paint with a good quality latex based paint.

RE: Grease Stains on Carpet
I recently tried a carpet stain remover called Winning Colours. It has worked on some of the toughest stains that no other cleaners have worked on. Here is a link to a store locator on their website:

RE: Saving Money on Paint
Lots of options for you on this one.
1) Clean your walls, this site has an article on cleaning nicotine off walls: http://www.how2instructions.com/Hom ... How_To_Clean_Nicotine_Off_Walls.html

2) Go to Home Depot, Lowes or Sherwin Williams and ask for mis-tinted paint. They should have some great deals.
3) Go to a place like Habitat for Humanity, they typically sell paint for a few dollars a gallon.

4) Find someone who wants to get rid of some of the paint in their basement. You can mix together the remaining paint in their cans to make enough paint for your project. ... View related article.

RE: Painting Kitchen Cabinets
Preparation is key with kitchen cabinets so make sure they are clean and dry.

I would use a regular paint instead of a spray paint. You can easily get runs with spray paint and not see them until they are dry. Remove the doors and drawers so they are easier to paint. You can take them to a garage where you don't have to worry about being so neat.

RE: Removing Oil Based Paint from Washer
I would assume that if you leave the door open and let it dry it won't come off anymore.

If you have to get it off, the only way to loosen oil-based paint is to use paint thinner or some other sort of stripper. I would hesitate to put any chemicals that may linger in the dryer since it gets heated up, I wouldn't want to have an explosion.

Although I assume if you were to get the paint off with paint thinner, then wash out the inside of the dryer with a cleaner and let it throughly dry you should be ok.

RE: Staining Wood Furniture
You only need to sand off the polyurethane finish. Then you can apply your stain. I would recommend a gel stain if you are going from a light color to a dark color. If you use a regular penetrating or wiping stain you may have to apply several coats to get your desired dark color. Hope that helps! ... View related article.

RE: Painting Cabinets to Make Kitchen Look Bigger
White cabinets will always make a room look bigger. You could go with a cream or off white to soften things up. ... View related article.
