RE: Cleaning the Oven
I am lucky to have a portable steamer from Shark and I steamed my oven cavity, hinges and all. I moved into a house that has a 30-year old double oven on the wall (this oven is a workhorse), but it really cleaned it up well. After I wiped up the stuff that settled on the bottom of the oven, I steamed the bottom of the oven to clean that part. I had to clean the floor below from the grease and gunk from the hinges, but that was easy. I have a bird in the house and try to avoid using chemicals whenever possible. This steamer has been a blessing. ... View related article.

RE: Bubba's Ribs
I see on the site where Saranwrap cannot be used in the oven, however, I volunteer in the kitchen at my church and we use the commercial grade wrap; we do put it in the oven. Never had a problem with the commercial grade. One time I tried to use the non-commercial grade product at home, meaning saran wrap. It did NOT hold up as well; it actually melted, so I won't do that again. ... View related article.

RE: Soap Solution for Flies on Grape Vines
Check with www.Jerrybaker.net. He gives you recipes for tonics for pests in the garden, as well as other issues. Most of the ingredients you already have in your home, so the cost is reasonable. I purchased a 20 page phamplet from him more than 25 years ago and had such great success, that I have purchasd several other books. His website has some tonic recipes and you can e-mail him for answers to your specific questions also. I hate to send you to just another site, but I can attest to fact that his advice is sound. Good Luck! ... View related article.

RE: Homemade Cleaning Solution for Bissell Quicksteamer
My dog had stomach problems for a while; I went though so much carpet shampoo with my hoover Steam Cleaner, that it was starting to get expensive. So, I looked up this recipe online and I think it works better than the Hoover stuff you purchase in the store. I used the empty hoover carpet cleaner bottle to mix it up in.

Homemade Carpet Shampoo

Half a cup of cleaner liquid (Clorox 2, Tide, Wisk, no bleach by the way)
Half a cup of Downy
One full cup of ammonia
Approximately one gallon of water

I used this with the same measurements as the store-purchased cleaner in my steam cleaner and I believe it did a better job.

For periodic spotting, I pick up most of the debris, then sprinkle the stain with baking soda and lightly tap it into the carpet, Using a spray bottle filled with White Vinegar, I spray the baking soda until it is dissolved. As it dries, it pulls the stain out of the carpet. Vacuum well afterwards to remove all the baking soda and stain. If the stain is deep set, you may need to repeat the procedure.

This idea really cleaned my area rug: I have a 2500 psi power washer. I power washed my driveway first, then I took my area rug and layed it down on the concrete so the back side was facing up. I power washed from the back of the carpet, careful not to slice the carpet with the force of the water. It got all the stains out and really cleaned it up good. I left it outside until it was dry. This is a semi powerful pressure washer, you could probably use an electric 1800 psi and it would work just as well. Also, before you do this, check for colorfast issues and I do have a large area rug that needs to be dry cleaned and I cannot use the power washing method on it.

Good Luck with your carpet. ... View related article.

RE: Dried Onions for Healthy Snack
I have a dehydrator also, I am very interested in the recipe. I buy the ones in the cans to put in my casseroles, but making them myself would be cheaper. I bet the sweet 1015 onions would be awesome. Post your recipe please. Thank you. ... View related article.
