RE: Removing Concrete
Try a concrete contractor and see if they will do the work while they are in the area doing a bigger job. This will save you some money. We did this recently with an old garage pad. Not cheap, but we saves a few hundred. The other thought is that you have to dispose of the concrete somewhere and they know where to take it. I don't think you're supposed to just put it in the garbage pickup ... View related article.

RE: Winterizing an Old House
You really need to go around the house and make a list of all the problem areas. (We're in year three of ours and still fixing here and there!). Insulation should be first, then sealing drafts--check the bottom of doors, too, as you can buy sweeps that block the air flow. Plastic is good covering, as are thick drapes.

We have double hung windows that actually move in and out a little so we put wood blocks inside the sill, between the screen and window, to keep the inside window pushed in. You have to get creative.

RE: Drafty Window Tips
I've also used fabric rolls stuffed with pillow stuffing in places where you want it to be a little more decorative. The only thing about the blue tape is that it's not as tight a seal, but the duct tape takes off your paint, so it's hard to decide sometimes. ... View related article.

RE: Preparing Your Trees For Winter
The watering thing is big. I always water until around Thanksgiving, when it gets too cold here in Chicago. I've also started adding compost to the soil before I mulch, so it breaks down over the winter. Here's a good link on a similar vein:

RE: Revitalize Your Flowering Shrubs Through Pruning
Great tips. Just be careful to prune at the right time. We lost some buds on one bush because they had already formed for the next year when we pruned. ... View related article.

RE: Controlling Rabbits In The Garden
We had some eating our arborvitae last winter, so it's off to build a fence this weekend. Thanks for the tips. ... View related article.

RE: Paint Color Ideas for Kitchen Cabinets
Boy, that green has got to go. I applaud your efforts. I would go with a cream or white for the cabinets and try painting a granite like look on the countertop, maybe in a brown tone. Paint or tile for the backsplash. Maybe a darker cream or something that is a shade of two different from either the cabinets or countertop. Good luck.

RE: Painting Bathroom Faucets
I'm just not sure if the paint will withstand the constant supply of water, but it's worth a try. Or, ask at a paint store. ... View related article.
