RE: Tribute to My Mom
Robin,
Thank you for sharing that tribute to your mother. I very much enjoyed reading it as I do enjoy your recipes. Your mother is obviously special but clearly she has a special daughter.

RE: What are Graham Crackers?
Hi Kerry,
I'm from Melbourne, Australia and I use any digestive type of biscuit, i.e., Marie, Arrowroot (from Aldi - very cheap)
The flavour maybe different (not sure - have never had Graham crackers . lol)

RE: Advice For Hard Dry Cuticles
Hi Donna,
Try anhydrous lanolin from the chemist (I'm in Australia). Also called woolfat. It's not expensive and although the smell is not great it should help.
Apparently woolfat is very close to the sebum produced by human skin. As suggested in previous posts - when wearing at night put some cotton gloves on. When doing household chores also put some on with cotton gloves and rubber ones if required. This really should work.
Ps. I have been using woolfat for 20 years as an ingredient in moisturisers and creams. ... View related article.

RE: Bread Pudding Or Rice Pudding Recipes
Hi Brenda,
The bread pudding I make is VERY simple, although many variations can be added.
6-8 slices bread, buttered. (I prefer butter-better flavour)
3 tablespoons sugar
3 tablespoons sultanas
3 eggs
750mls -1litre milk (depending on amount of bread).
Cut bread into quarters, put one layer on bottom of dish. Sprinkle 1 tablespoon sugar and 1 tablespoon of sultanas over layer. Repeat with remainding bread, sugar, sultanas.
Beat the eggs - (I just use two forks and whip them a bit) and add to milk.
Pour milk/egg over bread.
I leave the dish stand for a couple of hours (this seems to help in preventing pudding from sinking after cooking) and then bake in a slow oven (about 160 degrees for about 50 mins - 1 hour.
It is cooked when the top is reasonably firm and brown. (Same as a cake)
Variations are endless:
choc chips sprinkled between layers or drinking chocolate
put jam on buttered bread before layering
apple and cinnamon between layers
My husband and sons actually prefer the simplest version (as above) served with whipped cream, and my husband loves it cold.
Regards,
Maree

RE: Easiyo Yogurt Maker Tips
Hi Sheena,
Thanks for the info. especially about water "leak" Sorry, I have a further question - a bit dense of me - but: Do you scald the milk and then cool the mixture to tepid before you put it in the Easiyo - or do you just make the culture with tepid mild and have the yogurt at room temperature? I do use Greek yogurt as a starter. Hope my question makes sense. Thank you very much for your response - you, and people here are very generous with sharing information.
Thanks again,

RE: Ants In My Worm Farm
Hi Anna,
The instruction in my "Can-O-Worms" booklet suggests the following.
Raise the moisture content. (I splashed water all over the top of mine)
Add a liberal quantity of garden lime where they are gathering
Smear vaseline around the legs or place each leg in a container of water.
I did all three and this solved the problem. (I didn't do vaseline, but put the legs in used dog food containers filled with water.
Hope this helps,

RE: Easiyo Yogurt Maker Tips
Thanks Grandma - very grateful for your prompt response. Your yogurt recipe is very similar to mine, but my problem is this; according to the Easiyo instructions the mixture is placed in the container cold and then boiling water is put inside the thermos part. Of course, like yours, my culture is approx. 45C and I am worried that if I add the boiling water it will be too hot and I will kill the culture. I tried by just putting some boiling water in the bottom of the Easiyo container (just a little) and everything seemed to go well. But, after I tranferred the yogurt into another container in order to use the Easiyo one for my next batch, the yogurt became quite runny after it had been in the fridge for a few hours, even though it had been very thick and creamy when I first put it in. Sorry for such a long explanation. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
