RE: Surviving Family Thanksgiving
My daughter is allergic to cats. It is really a problem for her when we go to my MIL's for Thanksgiving or when she stays over night at a friends house where there are cats. We found just taking a non drowsy antihistamine does the trick. Perhaps it will work for your MIL too, but she is probably the type that no matter what solution you come up with she will find a reason to say it won't work. The restaurant idea could be a solution until children come along. My sister and BIL would alternate holidays with our family and his. Every other year for each of the holidays, with an alternate day selected to celebrate with which ever family they didn't get to visit with on the actual holiday. ... View related article.

RE: Disposing of Kitchen Scraps Other Than Composting
When you say scraps, I assume you don't mean vegetable as those most likely would not smell up your garbage that much until trash day. We compost the vegetable matter but for the rest like meat, bones, skin, leftover casseroles, etc. I save all the bags that other products come in that have zip lock tops, for that purpose. When you zip it up, the odors don't escape. I also use empty mild cartons (not the plastic gallons). It's not the perfect solution, but those items are not recycles in our area so they get thrown out anyway. ... View related article.

RE: Getting Children To Brush Their Teeth
Thank you all for responding. I think I will try the pictures of rotting teeth and hang them up in the bathroom next to the tooth brushes. I did buy the oral B rechargeable tooth brush but it doesn't intrigue him at all. It's so easy too, no effort, just go over each tooth slowly and it does it all for you. Also tried the ones that play songs. A waste of money for us. I am in the process of another abscessed tooth and root canal. Have had several and even though he sees the unbearable pain I go through, he still doesn't think it will happen to him. ... View related article.

RE: Reusing Mylar Balloons
I carefully slit them open giving me 2 pieces. I then put a potted plant in the middle, pull up around the cheap pot, and tie around with a ribbon. It's great for giving as a gift. Doesn't really matter which side you leave facing outward. Once it is tied up you don't really see whatever the greeting was. I do this for Mother's Day and Easter for giving Grandma a plant. She is frugal too so this idea appeals to her. ... View related article.

RE: Streak-Free Windows
This works great. I wash my windows with a solution of cornstarch and water. I scrub the windows with a microfiber cloth dipped in the cornstarch mixture and wrung out well. Then with another dry, clean microfiber cloth I dry the window until shiny clean and streak free. It works like magic. Best thing I've ever found. I use approximately 1/4 cup to a half bucket of water. ... View related article.

That's exactly what our Lab does. We live on a stream. When he gets hot in the summer, he takes himself on a trip to the stream. He stands in the water up to his belly until he's cooled off. ... View related article.
