| RE: What Breed is My Dog? |

He looks a lot like our red bone hound dog and if he's a hunting dog mix I would bet there is some hound in him. Long, well-muscled legs, boundless energy, floppy ears, and different vocalization for every mood. ... View related article. |

Get an expert to check out the electrical system. You can't tell how much damage was done by the lightening. The charge ran through more than just two boxes, it ran through your whole house. Don't use any electrical appliance that shows signs of fire or burn marks and check all outlets and places that electricity enters or exits your home. Don't risk a fire. ... View related article. |

| RE: Painting a Dining Set |
I completely agree with the previous post and as someone who refinishes furniture professionally (in many different ways), I can only emphasize the importance of prepping your surface first. You have 30 years of wax, polish, varnish, stain and dirt on that table, without the right prep work your paint will just peel off.
First be sure that it is real wood and that it has a stain or varnish on it, NOT laminate. After you clean it, if you don't want to sand it (which I highly recommend anyway) use a "liquid sandpaper" you can find at any DIY or Paint store. This will make the surface able to take a new paint. Also you could look into using kitchen cabinet paint, it is very durable and doesn't usually need a top coat to seal it.
The best thing is to try it on one leg or one chair first, that way you know what works and how it will look. 25 years ago I did this to a dining set when we were first married, I've changed the look of that table 3 times and now my daughter has it and changed it again, but I learned the hard way that preparation is the key to a good finish.
Have FUN, and let your creativity out! ... View related article. |

| RE: Freezing Excess Tomatoes |
|
Absolutely. My Aunt taught me to wash them well, dry them and put the tomatoes in the plastic freezer boxes. When you need tomatoes for soups, stews, and sauces just defrost. The best part is the skin slides right off once they thaw, so you don't even have to peel them. I've done this for years especially with plum tomatoes and then I can make fresh pasta sauce year-round. ... View related article. |

| RE: Crafts Using Men's Neckties |
I make handbags and tote bags, there are great instructions here: http://www.craftbits.com/viewProject.do?projectID=888.
I also use them for belts, headbands, curtain tiebacks and leash covers (stitch some that are fairly even in width end to end and side by side forming a long tube, then stitch a small velcro tab at each end. Slip the leash through the tube and fasten the velcro to prevent the cover from slipping and voila, a fancy leash for the cost of a thrift store tie). Really ugly ones just get tied into knots for dog and cat toys. ... View related article. |

We use white vinegar in our steam cleaner too and it works great on pet stains. If your dog is eating grass outdoors, you might try growing a little patch of wheat grass for him, it's easy on the stomach and lots of times animals are just telling you they want some vegies in thier diet (my dogs love raw green beans). You can buy the wheat grass at most pet stores in little "grow your own" pots or get larger amounts of seed at health food stores. This has really cut down on both my dogs and cats tummy troubles. ... View related article. |

| RE: Surprising My Boyfriend With a Vacation |

When I had an opportunity to travel to England but needed help with the airfare, my Brother and Sister-in-law gave me a toy airplane with a tag on it telling me they were helping me pay airfare. It was a great surprise and I still have the toy many years later. The same could be done with any mode of transportation toy and the recipient would have a keepsake of the occasion for years to come. ... View related article. |

| RE: Teeth Whitening Kits from the Dollar Store |
|
Do be careful using teeth whitening products too much. Most of them whiten by bleaching the top enamel of the tooth, which actually will break it down over time. Once you start to loose the enamel, your teeth become VERY sensitive. Microscopic holes are formed in the tooth enamel which lead directly to the nerves. Take it from my personal experience, you don't want to "over" whiten your teeth. ... View related article. |
