RE: Preserving Family History
By all means take care of this project. We regret so much not getting our dad's voice on tape before he died. And oh how I wish we had gotten a video tape. My children were "in utero" when he died, so they only know him through my stories about him and photographs.

Another idea is a "grandparents book" --- a blank book they can fill with memories, photos, etc. to pass on to grand and great grandchildren. Plus it will be in their own handwriting. My grandmother was given one of these blank books and she worked at it periodically --- it is a real pleasure to read it and imagine her voice speaking the words.

Good luck! ... View related article.

RE: Getting People to Show Up for a Party
No ideas at --- just wanted to say I understand! Getting people in this area to rsvp is next to impossible. I don't think anyone has manners anymore.

I'm having a birthday party for my dd tomorrow. Invited 10 girls --- NOT ONE rsvp-ed with a telephone call.

RE: 50th Anniversary Advice
This is exactly the type of party we gave our parents on their 50th anniversary. We called it an Open House, but recently I've seen the term Come and Go. I'm guessing they are the same thing.

Our party was very informal, with cake and punch.

Good luck and have fun! ... View related article.

RE: Uses for Potato Masher
I use a potato masher to mash cooked pinto beans to make my own "refried" beans. Works great, and these refried beans are a whole lot cheaper! ... View related article.

RE: Saving Money Going To The Movies
We take our own snacks too -- paying $3 for a candybar is outrageous. But I always feel guilty about doing it. Why? I haven't taken my own popcorn yet. ... View related article.

RE: Cassettes or VHS Tapes of Elderly Relatives
This is such a great thing to do. My aunt made several recordings of her 90+ yo aunt (my great aunt) asking her questions about her childhood, her memories of school, engagement and marriage, information about kin who had passed on already, etc. They are so much fun to listen to. Not only is it wonderful to hear her voice again now that she is gone, but the memories she shared are of a time we can only imagine now. ... View related article.

RE: Pileated Woodpecker and Bird Feeder Pole
You are SOOOOOOOOOO lucky to have a pileated woodpecker at your feeder! I've only seen one a handful of times and it was in Central Missouri. What part of the country do you live in?

RE: Cut the Costs of Your New Baby... Devour those Yard Sales
When we were expecting our twins, I got just about everything from second hand sources -- hand me downs, garage sales or flea markets. Then after they were born I bought most of their toys and clothes from garage sales. A terrific money saver. And if there was anything we couldn't find second hand, I didn't hesitate to respond to "Is there anything you need?" with requests!

I wish they had had Free Cycle then! ... View related article.
