Profile For Noella -

I now get to be a stay-at-home Mom to 14-year-old twin boys, William and Samuel. I missed my son David so much after he left home. I never dreamed that my desire to have another family would ever come true.

I have a wonderful, adoring husband (another dream come true) who treats me like a queen. He is the best there is.

RE: Inexpensive Christmas Gifts for Assisted Living Residents
Buying their favorite out-of-season fruits or vegetables is always nice. Making a favorite home-made jam or jelly is good. My dad loved tomato preserves and the only way to get them was to make them. ... View related article.

RE: Primer Not Adhering to Bathroom Wall
According to my research - glossy paint must be deglossed either by sanding or chemical deglossing or the paint won't stick. Also, if there is too much moisture, the paint will peel. The moisture problem has to be taken care of first. Since this is behind the stool or commode section, sounds like it's a moisture problem. ... View related article.

RE: What You Shouldn't Try Yourself (But Maybe You Have)
Regarding printing pictures at home. It IS cheaper to have them printed at Walgreens or Wal-Mart, etc. If you want to adjust your prints in photoshop before printing, save the file to a CD and take it in rather than the card. I understand that part of the reason that cards or usb sticks fail is because of plugging them into various ports. I always print my pictures to a CD and they are then "stored." ... RE: Child Support Payments and Social Security
Acirillo, I use the Springfield office also. My husand was $30,000 behind in support payments. I went through Support Enforcement Unit years earlier. Because I was not on "welfare" I was pretty much on the back burner. However, my enforcement unit caseworker had placed "ticklers" on the file to have me notified when my ex's Social Security number showed anything.

When I found out he was getting Social Security (and I think it was disability) I called the SS office who tried to put me off telling me that I was too late. I mentioned the "tickler" and they changed their tune. They hadn't been the ones who called me, it was Support Enforcement who called me. I went into the SS office and we got back SS payments and had his SS garnished. He will finish paying his child support payments in 2012. Go to the SS office and talk to them. Talk to Support Enforcement. Don't back down. Good luck. ... View related article.

RE: Dishes Smell Bad After I Wash Them
I have found that dishes with egg on them seems to "soil" the dishwater. You might try washing the egg off before placing the dishes in your dishwater. Be sure and change the dishwater often and change your dishcloth at least every day. I changed my dish detergent from Dawn to another brand because I felt that the Dawn detergent left my dishcloth smelling bad. The cheaper brands of dish detergent don't seem to work as well either. ... View related article.

RE: Paying Bills During Financial Hardship
You have received some great advice here. I "second" several things - cut off cable, cut your telephone service to bare minimum, if your cell phone plan is expired, get rid of the cell phone (we lived years and years without one, and I admit, that would be a hard one for me to do), cancel your internet and use the library computer, cancel your cable and watch DVDs or VHS tapes or if you need cable for just watching TV, take it down to bare minimum. Plan any trips to once a week or when you have an appointment elsewhere - combine errands.

Do laundry once or twice a week, cut your dryer sheets in half, shower every other day, carpool if possible, look for a second job - it's near Christmas time and many stores hire Christmas help and if they really like you, they may keep you on for a while longer. I worked Christmas jobs along with a regular job many, many times. Sell unneeded items on eBay, Craig's List or at a garage sale. Take unused clothing to consignment shops for extra money. Eat out less and less. Register at every temp agency in town. Cold call prospective employers.

And above all else - cut up the credit cards and send them back to the credit card company. That way they know you're serious! Not to be shouting, but: don't use them for anything! It is much easier if you tell yourself that this is just temporary. You will be doing much better soon.

I've been in this situation in the past so I know it can be done. Just remember, there are no mistakes, only lessons that we learn.

Oh, and another thing, pay small credit cards first and when that card is paid off, take what you were paying on that card and apply it to the next smaller bill. Try to set up a budget. ... View related article.

RE: Pictures Stuck to Frames
Water will not hurt the prints. In fact, that is the last solution that they are run through during processing.

However, if they are printed from your desktop printer, water will ruin them. and it would be best to re-scan them while under the glass or print a new copy from the file. ... View related article.

RE: Repairing a Hole in a Garden Hose
You might wrap plumber's tape around it, then cover it very tightly with a matching duct tape.I don't know if that would work or not, You need to make sure the hose is clean and dry. We've got a hose with the same problem, and I need to try that myself. ... View related article.

RE: Helping Children Keep Their Rooms Clean
I agree with melharvey. Once a month is not nearly often enough. There is no reason why clothes can't be put in the clothes hamper every night and towels hung up in the bathroom. If she eats in her room, the food container should be taken back into the kitchen every night or at least in the mornings when she makes her bed. This is very little work that takes up very little time every day. If the small things are done every day, there are no "big" things to do later. The room could be swept or vacuumed and dusted once a week or more often, depending on how much is accumulated how often. Generally, just picking up after oneself is a huge contributor to a clean and orderly room. ... View related article.

RE: Organizing Debit Card Receipts
I carry my checkbook and checkbook register in my billfold. That is also where I carry my debit cards, which I use almost exclusively rather than cash. My greatest fear was that I'd miss posting the sale in my checkbook, so what I do is after the sale is completed, I place my receipt in my checkbook register. At the end of the day or the next morning, I post the receipts and then place the receipts into an expandable envelope where I have 3 x 5 cards with tabs showing the day, 1 for the first, 2 for the second, etc.

I access my checking account online every day so I can then mark my register with a highlighter when the receipts have cleared. I also use Quicken on my computer so I have a duplicate check register there. My husband also uses his debit card almost exclusively. So every evening or morning he gives me his receipts which he had placed in his billfold where money would normally go.

With this system, we never overdraw and I know to the penny how much money is in the bank at least once a day. If I do run into a problem, I can check what's online against what's in my check registers. There have been times when a receipt has gotten lost or I've double posted something. With the "filters" and being able to "sort" the data, I can find mistakes within minutes.

I've used this system for at least 10 years or more and it works great for me.

At the end of the month, I take all the old receipts from the envelope and rubberband them together and start the month over. Also, when it comes time to reconcile my account with the bank statement, I just use Quicken to reconcile and I'm done in minutes. ... View related article.
