Excellent suggestion. Thanks! I love butter but have been avoiding it because of health reasons and because of the inconvenience of using hard butter. I will definitely give this a try. ... View related article. |

| RE: Leaving Fat in Chicken Broth |
I personally take as much fat off as I can since I don't want it in my body. I also personally don't like the feel of al that fat coating and congealing in my mouth and on my lips.
Why don't you just try it for yourself? Take the fat off as suggested, and then taste the fat all by itself to see what flavor it has and if you like it. If you do, you can always add some of the fat back, bit by bit, into the warmed broth, until you achieve the right compromise of flavor vs healthiness for you.

| RE: Bubble Gum Hand Cleaner |
According to a recent NYTimes article, hand sanitizer needs to be AT LEAST 60% alcohol in order to be effective at killing germs. Any less than that, and the alcohol doesn't stay on your hands long enough (it dries too quickly), and all you're doing is smearing the germs around.
So in order to be effective, you'd need a minimum of 2/3 cup alcohol for every 1/3 cup of aloe vera gel. ... View related article. |

| RE: Keeping Pond Water Clear |

Barley straw works well for keeping pond water clear. Check out Gardener's Supply Company at www.gardeners.com, and search for "barley". The Barley Pad with Flotation Frame s the product size that would be appropriate for a pond your size. The Barley Ball product description is a bit more useful, though. Good luck! ... | RE: Getting Rid of Unwanted Items When You Live In An Apartment |
Just a comment on MamaJude's post. While giving your stuff to thrift stores won't get you any money up front, you may be able to take it as a tax deduction if you itemize on your return. Just make sure you keep a list of all the items you give (25 women's blouses, 14 glass vases, etc.), and make an estimate of how much each item would be worth in the resale market (usually about half to 1/3 of the retail cost).
The advantage of thrift stores is that you don't have to take the time to haul, set up, monitor, and take down all the unsold things like you would if you were doing a garage sale. Your time is worth money too!

| RE: Baby Cries All Night |
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND a book called Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child, by Marc Weissbluth. He is an MD whose speciality is pediatric sleep. It explains pediatric sleep and how it develops from newborns through the teen years, and how you can promote it or unwittingly undermine it.
Unfortunately, it's not really organized in a way that makes it useful as a quick-answer reference, but it's invaluable for giving you a good overview of what this sleep thing is all about. It really helped me cut through all the old-wive's-tales nonsense that floats around everywhere about how to get your child to sleep.
Good luck! ... View related article. |
