Several bulbs reproduce via new bulbs. Daffodils (boy, DO THEY!), bluebells, grape hyacinth, hyacinth, etc. Iris and lily of the valley rhizomes add new rhizomes at the edges of old rhizomes. Gladiolus, crocus, and freesia produce new corms much like new bulbs are produced. Day lilies and dahlias are root plants that throw out new roots. To keep these plants growing well and continuing to flower they need to be separated periodically
Find a friend or neighbor who has a whole lot of these plants growing in their yard and ask if you can have some of the "babies" when they are ready to divide their plants. I'm going through the same situation myself. I happened on my solution by accident. I'd gotten a couple of "flats" of annuals this year. I dumped some of my reclaimed rock onto one of the empty plastic flats. When I watered the garden much of the dirt washed off the reclaimed rock. After the rock dried I simply "sifted" the flat back and forth and the remaining dirt sifted off. REGARDING BIKE HELMETS (or other safety helmets) -- Don't get too thrifty! Get new helmets, or make sure used helmets are undamaged. Once a helmet has been damaged it looses it's shock-absorbing effectiveness -- kind of like the new car bumpers that crumple on impact. ... View related article.
