RE: Make Your Own Summer Skirt
It's really neat to use old vintage printed bed sheets from a thrift store to do this with too. They are cute, unique and CHEAP! You can find vintage bedsheets for $0.50 sometimes, and they are so cute if you can find patterns you like.

I really really want to find one that's an '80s star wars design and make a skirt with that, I think it would be awesome! ... View related article.

RE: Making Mittens on a Knitting Loom

There is a pattern I have found for a one loom mitten. It's at least a possibility :D ... View related article.

RE: Cooking Roast in a Crock Pot
I always do fat side down, it cooks faster than the rest of the meat that way and sometimes actually browns a little, especially if it is directly on the bottom. Better flavor that way. ... View related article.

RE: Eco-Friendly Flea Remedies
Might be worth looking into diatomic earth. I know it works on roaches, but maybe on fleas too? It is NOT a pesticide. It is actually made from the shells of tiny creatures (diatoms) and the sharp edges cut up the shells of insects leading to them drying out and dying. It's non toxic (although not a good idea to breathe the dust, it's physically irritating, just not poisonous.)

I don't think it's all that expensive, and a little goes a long way and would probably be perfect for the house and yard.

Also- I too have heard that a good old fashioned bath with Dawn dish detergent can help, along with getting a flea comb to try to comb some of the critters out!

Hope something works for you! ... View related article.

RE: Cellphone Plans Without 2 Year Contracts
Don't know if it's available where you are, but I am with MetroPCS and it's fantastic. There is no contract, it has unlimited minutes- local and long distance, unlimited texting and other features available. I am paying about $50 after the taxes and fees and I love my service. They have a few different plans, all with unlimited calling, based on what extra features you want. Definately worth looking into if it's available. They also have a couple of family plans available- there's one where you can add a phone for $35 a month or another which is 4 phones for $100 a month.

Like I said tho- only works if they have it in your area. Another concern- they don't travel well. Works for me since I rarely leave my city let alone my state, but perhaps a concern for anyone who travels regularly. ... View related article.

RE: Improving the Flavor of Hummus
I've always liked store bought hummus just fine (home made is better of course)so not sure what you need to know.

What is it specifically that you are not liking about it? Are you wanting a way to doctor store bought up to taste fresher? (if so try some lemon juice or maybe some chopped parsley?) Or are you just not liking it in general and want it to taste entirely different?

From what I remember hummus consists of chickpeas (garbanzo's to some), lemon juice, olive oil, tahini (sesame seed paste) garlic and cumin- and maybe some salt to taste if it needs it. If one of those is a taste that you aren't liking you could find a recipe and adjust to your taste. ... View related article.

RE: Bright White Walls with Red Accents
Perhaps a warmer more inviting cream or taupe color? Can still work with the red and be not as shocking as straight white. ... View related article.

RE: Use for Crystal Light Canisters
You can decorate them and put something with a little weight in the bottom and they make good pencil holders for by the phone or on the desk.

Decorating them and cutting a slot in the top makes a cute little piggy bank.

Maybe use them to portion out individual servings of dry goods like cereal or trail mix or something that you'll use fairly quickly. (Not sure if they are air tight, don't want stuff getting stale) Or just use it to hold a snack for the day.

You might try asking schools or preschools in your area if they would be able to use them. I know when my son was small and I had baby food jars left over all the time they loved receiving them.

Store plastic bags from the grocery store in one to keep in the car for quick clean ups.

Poke holes in the top of one and put cornstarch in it. Tape the lid on so it doesn't come off or leak around the edges. Instant dusting powder.

Do the same thing with baking soda for cleaning up- sprinkle on damp surfaces and wipe to clean.

Make little instant craft kits to keep kids busy when you need time to do something. Put large beads and yarn with a taped end for stringing or bits of cut up paper and a glue stick to make a mosaic or pie cleaners and tissue paper to make flowers.

fill a quarter of the way with uncooked rice or dried beans and glue or tape shut to make a shaker.

Use it to keep small things that get lost in the bottom of your purse together. Pens, pencils, stamps, jewelry, that button that fell off, change etc...

Use for drinking cups in a pinch, they are cup shaped after all, and more sturdy than store bought plastic disposable cups.

Hope something in here helps, just stuff off the top of my head. ... View related article.

RE: Problems With Air Fresheners Fading
As a previous poster said, it's not that your house is loosing smell, it's that you are getting used to the smell that's there. Try this- Go out for a while, couple of hours or so, and when you come back pay special attention to the smell as you walk into the house. I bet that it smells a lot stronger than you think. Also, to the person that said other peoples houses always smell better than your own, probably the same thing. You are used to the smell of your house and so it fades away. Yous don't notice it as much, but you walk into a new environment and you immediately notice the smell.

They have plug in type air fresheners now where the scent changes periodically so it changes before you get used to the old smell. That might be a way to go. I've also heard that scent stories are good about that, but kind of pricey imo. ... View related article.

You could try hanging it in small bunches upside down to air dry. It's worth a try anyways, to see if it tastes different than fresh. ... View related article.
