RE: Cleaning Up Baby Powder Residue on Floors
I use powder in the bathtub, with the shower curtain drawn, and with the bathroom door closed, and don't have much residue anywhere else in the house. I find it easier to clean one room. Most of the excess powder is in the tub and can be washed down the drain. I use the hand held shower to wash down the inside of the shower curtain, and leave it drawn so it dries out. Hope this is helpful. ... View related article.

RE: Comforter Too Narrow for Bed
What size is the bed? If any size smaller than king, get a coordinating flat sheet on/two sizes larger, and center the comforter on it, aligned at the top. If you sew, you can attach it all the way around. Or just do this each time you make the bed. If you have a king size bed, you could cut strips from a king flat sheet, and sew to the sides and bottom of the comforter. ... View related article.

RE: Cleaning Stuck Food off Cookware
Powdered dishwasher detergent and water - make a thick paste with detergent and water, cover stained area, and let pot sit overnight, then scrub. Or fill pot with water a little above the stained part, stir in 1/2 cup detergent powder, bring to a boil and simmer 10-15 minites. Burnt on food will float to the top and/or scrape off easily. You can buy the detergent at the dollar store for this if you don't have a dishwasher. Brand El Cheapo works as well as the more expensive brands, but it must be powder, not gel. ... RE: Converting a T-shirt into Other Apparel
If the tee is large enough to fit around your hips, it can become a skirt. If the neck does not stretch enough, cut it on both sides along the shoulder seams until it does. Reinforce both ends of the cut with hand stitching so it won't rip. If short sleeved, sew the sleeve openings shut with hand stitches. Pull the tee skirt on, and tuck in the sleeves as pockets.

You can cut the tee open along the side seams if the neck and shoulders fit. You can cut strips of material similar in type(another tee maybe) and sew to both halves of the cut open tee, hemming at the sleeve edges and bottom. You can use matching, blending or contrasting material. I once used a print which matched a skirt I had made when the only tee I could find that went with it was a medium, and I wear XL/1X. Expanded it by about 2" on each side. Still wearing it years later.

If the tee has a graphic on it, you can applique it onto a shirt that fits you. ... View related article.

RE: Craft: Trivet from Wine Corks
I have made a wreath and a Christmas tree from wine corks, and all I did to prepare them was to wash/soak them in hot water and dish detergent, then rinse well, and let air dry for a couple of days. You do have to weight them down to keep them under water to soak them. I used a bowl and a plate as the weight. This did not remove wine stains, but they add character to me. ... RE: Making Vests With Pre-Quilted Fabric
You could use wide bias tape, grosgrain ribbon or even blanket binding to cover the raw edges. End and begin at the side seamm with a short overlap with the top tape's raw edge turned under. The inside seams can be trimmed with pinking shears, zig zag stitched, or serged if you have a serger. If you are sewing with 1/2" seam allowances, you can clip them to 1/4" after seweing, which also cuts bulk. Keep warm in the NY winter.

RE: Painting Room With Red and Black Furniture
Try a shade of grey on the walls. I used to have a living room with black furniture and a red rug. The walls were painted a dove grey, with white woodwork. I used pillows in black, grey, red and white and red curtains. Good luck, whatever you decide to do. ... View related article.
