RE: Name That Card Game
This game is inspired by Phase 10, a commercial version of Contract Rummy, but is played with normal playing cards.

For every 2 players you will need: 2 Standard 52 card deck + 4 jokers
So for 4 players you need: 4 Standard decks + 8 jokers

To begin, deal each player 10 cards and flip one card face up. The object of the game is to complete each "phase". The 10 phases are:
1 Set of 3 + 1 Run of 3
1 Set of 3 + 1 Run of 4
2 Sets of 3
Run of 6
Run of 7
Run of 8
8 Cards of one Color (Red or Black)
2 Four Card Flushes (Example is 4,5,6,9 Hearts & 2,6,10,J Spades)
5 Cards of 1 Suit + 3 of Another
5 Cards of 1 Suit + 4 of Another

[Notes:
A "set" is a collection of cards of the same rank; suits are irrelevant.
A "run" is a set of cards of consecutive ranks. Ace is always low, and in this game, runs can be of mixed suits.]

Everybody starts out on the first phase. On your turn you can either draw one card from the top of the deck or take the card on the top of the discard pile. Either way at the end of your turn you throw any card you would like to the discard pile, but keep in mind the next player may take it. Jokers count as wilds and can be any suit, color, or number. Once you have all the cards necessary to complete a phase (for instance on Phase 1 your hand might have 6,6,6 and 7,8,9), you may if it is your turn set them down. This is called going down. Once you are "down" you can play your remaining cards onto yours or other player's "down cards". Remember: The phases are the minimal requirements to go down. On 8 cards of one color you may have all 10 of one color.

Going Out: Once you go down you can at any time "go out" by getting rid of all the cards in your hand. This may be done with a discard or by playing all of your cards on other players. Everybody who went down that round moves on to the next phase, while anyone who did not go down stays on the same phase. All the cards remaining in player's hands are accumulated to their point totals (you do not want points). The scoring system is simple: Cards between 1-9 5 Points
10,J,Q,K 10 Points
Jokers 25 Points

Ending the Game: The game is over when one player successfully goes down on the last phase, and they are declared the winner. BUT if two people both go down on the 10th phase, their score comes into play. The person with the lowest score wins. If it is a tie, all players involved in the tie play the tenth phase again, the person who goes out wins.

Determining Places: To determine who got 1st, 2nd, etc. you go by what phase they completed first, then by score. Here is an example:Name Last Phase Completed Score
Bob 7 465
Jack 6 480
Sarah 10 250
Dillon 6 440

In this example, the winner was Sarah. In second was Bob. Since Jack and Dillon tie in the last phase completed, Dillon finishes in 3rd due to his lower score.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: I have 6 cards all the same number, can I use them as my 2 sets of three?
A: Yes.

Q: If someone goes out do the "down cards" count as any points?
A: No.

Q: Are Aces high or low?
A: They are low because in the Phase 10 card game an Ace is replaced with a one.

Q: So I can't have a run Queen, King, Ace?
A: That's basically what I just said.

I think this may be it! Hope so. Good luck, Joyce Again

RE: Skin Care Home Remedies
All At the Dollar Stores:
1 jar vasoline
1 bottle of baby lotion
1 jar of cocoa butter
Mix together for body cream.

You are right, Karen. This was the find of the year for me.
Joyce
This is the best recipe for dry or irritated skin.
I use a jar of cheap Vitamin E cream instead of cocoa butter.
You can buy creamy vaseline in a tube.
Also my sister used unscented baby lotion.
Try this at $ 4.00 to $5.00 total for all ingredients, and it makes a lot . Put it back in jars or margerine tubs.
I know your elbows and hands and feet will thank you. LOL ... View related article.

RE: Homemade Lemishine Recipe
Is the inside of your dishwasher looking dull? It could be hard mineral deposits that have built up on the inside. These deposits not only make the dishwasher look dirty, but they could also affect its performance. And if you are thinking of selling your home, a dull dishwasher could be a deterrent to potential home buyers.

I have heard of people using Tang to get the mineral deposits out. The Tang works well, but it is a bit costly to be used as a dishwasher cleaner, especially if you don't ordinarily drink the stuff. The reason Tang works so well at cleaning out all of the built up mineral deposits is because it contains citric acid. The citric acid breaks down the minerals, and they can wash away. Tang also comes in a powdered form, which makes it convenient to use in the dishwasher, just as you might use automatic dishwasher detergent.
But there is a product that is just as effective as Tang. It contains citric acid and comes in a powdered form. It is also a lot less money. The product I am talking about is a small package of unsweetened lemon Kool-Aid. Make sure that you pick up the unsweetened version and not the sugar-free version. You can purchase a packet for 25 cents, although I have seen them as low as 10 cents at discount stores and on sale at regular grocery stores. Tang generally sells for about $5 or more, and I have yet to ever see it on sale.

Just place the lemon Kool-Aid into the soap dispenser of your machine and run an empty load for a complete cycle. Not only will the dishwasher shine on the inside, but it will have a nice lemon smell when you open it. ... View related article.

RE: Elizabeth's Pasta Bake
Oh, I like this. Since it is sooooo hot (August in Mississippi) I used the Nesco electric roaster on the porch. Baked fine and dandy in approximately same time. Have sauteed zukes and yellow squash on the side with cucumber and red ripe tomato salad. Life is good Enjoy. Joyce ... View related article.

RE: Use Gladwear as a Microwave Pasta Cooker
You get the same results using good old corningware ( or other microwave-safe) cookware. I have some corning that I have had for 39 years. Still works, still safe , still easy to care for and stack and use. Some things just last!
Enjoy the pasta ! Joyce ... View related article.

RE: Support Your Daycare Provider
Hooray for bringing up this subject. Our precious children are suffering for lack of skilled, well-paid day care teachers. And they are teachers, not babysitters. When you compare the number of hours your children spend at daycare with just about any other activity, it becomes clear where they learn to handle daily events. They are like sponges absorbing knowledge and behavior patterns from their caregivers. They deserve the best and in order to attract the best we have to offer the best employment opportunity to the smartest, sweetest, most enthusiastic daycare workers. It,s such a loss to the children and to the hard-working devoted teachers when we fail to invest the most, for the greatest return. Our futures depend on it,too. I am with you 100%. Talk to anyone ,anywhere, anytime you get the chance to influence their thinking and actions towards daycare.

Thanks, Joyce ... View related article.

RE: What Breed Is My Dog?
He looks an awful lot like our "Molly." She is a rat terrier.
Lots of spunk and personality. Very active. Curious. Will absolutely climb a tree to chase a squirrel! We have adopted 4 along the years and love the breed.
