| RE: Creating a Budget for Buying a House |

You are missing more money than you think as your math is incorrect. $380/week is actually $1,646/month. Many people make this same mistake. Your did $380 x 4 weeks = monthly income. That would be correct if there was only 48 weeks a year. However, to get the correct average take home monthly pay - it's $380 x 52 then divide by 12 months. I get $1,646/per month average take home not $1,520. ... View related article. |

Are you using bleach in your wash? This wreaks havoc on any whites that aren't 100% cotton. Try putting some baking soda along with detergent in with your whites next time. You will see your whites the whitest ever! I learned this from my 89 year old Aunt whose white undies were so white all the time. ... View related article. |

| RE: My Frugal Life: Recession? What Recession? |
Amen! I have watched people buy all the new trinkets that come out, waiting on long lines to spend a lot of money just because everyone else is. I could never understand it. If you want the items, wait a few months when the price drops significantly. There is a commonality among millionaires, they all live below their means. I love having money left over to put in the bank. I would much rather have money in the bank than a flat screen TV - I sleep much more soundly.
I'm currently unemployed and collecting unemployment benefits and I live on less than my unemployment check! The problem these days is that the middle class is living like they are rich. I remember being middle class when we were younger and there was never a new car purchased and we lived within our means. Let's just hope everyone learns their lesson after the recession is over - unfortunately, I doubt they will. ... View related article. |

| RE: Break Down Organizing to Manageable Tasks |
Hi all ! I just finished reading the Queen of Clean Conquers Clutter book and here's a few things I took away: -Organize in 15 minute blocks of time (you can set the timer). It doesn't seem so overwhelming if you only have to work for 15 mins. She claims that you can get a lot done in that time and if after the timer goes off and you want to do another 15, go ahead! -Evaluate each room and what's going on - say, after a busy weekend. For me the clutter builds around my desk/computer, so I will put a basket near it to put all the paper and notes until I have time to go through it. -Another area is my pantry - I will be putting a lazy susan or 2 in there to help. -When getting the mail, I first stop at the paper recycle container and toss the junk mail before it even gets into the house. -Try to walk through your home like you are doing it for the first time - have an objective eye to what you see and where the clutter is. Is there stuff that is in the wrong room? Find a place for it in the room where it belongs ... View related article. |

This is very similar to a recipe I have - mine says to use apple or peach filling but I guess you can use what you prefer! This recipe is great because if you keep all ingredients in the house - you can whip it up in a flash when you need a dessert at the last minute. ... View related article. |

| RE: Recipes And Tips For Using A Convection Oven |
Working in the food business for 18 years (including restaurant kitchens) convection ovens are the best! They have been used in professional kitchens long before they came to residential homes. The only difference is that there is a fan in there, so I don't agree with a change in cooking temperature is needed from conventional oven recipes. You will have to shorten the cooking time, however. The fan allows for even cooking, no hot/cold spots in the oven.
I learned (professionally) that the only thing you cannot cook in a convection oven is egg based recipes (i.e., souffles and breakfast items with eggs). I am a big baker (professional) and bake practically everything in my convection oven. When you cook your regularly made items in there for the first time, use an internal thermometer for meats, and watch everything carefully noting how long it took to cook and make a note on your recipe for next time. ...
