Hi, I am the proud owner of a German Shepherd x Husky. Ruby Ramona is 3 years old and an absolutely brilliant dog. She is quite intelligent and knows several commands, yet the Husky stubborn streak does shine through sometimes. Ruby is wonderful with kids and is well socialised with other animals. She is such a passive girl and so gentle. We got Ruby a few months after our 11 year old dog Ace passed away in April of 2006. Our other dog Josie was very depressed as her and Ace had been together since Josie was 1 year old. She and Ruby immediately clicked and it was wonderful seeing Josie act like a puppy again. Sadly Josie also died later that year at 13 years of age, from a very rapid form of cancer. Ruby was only 7 months at the time. She has helped our family grieve for our lost fur-babies and given us so much love and cuddles. We love her so much.
I also have to leave my dog for several hours while I am at work. I find she is less lonely if I leave the cats inside with her. A nice bone or some chewy pig trotters or ears keep them busy for some time. Otherwise leave some doggy toys around the house for your fur baby to play with. Kongs are fantastic too! Good luck. ... Hi, I am so sorry for the loss of your pet. I got Ruby out of the paper, just by sheer luck. I don't know where you are located but I know of a 5 month old shepherd / Husky mix in Brisbane. She is beautiful. You can find her on the Save a pound dog Qld website. If you are interested. Good luck with it all. Once again I am so saddened by your loss....Hang in there. ... Hi, I have a 10 month old German Shepherd Husky mix. She is a great dog until we leave the house....separation anxiety. (She is an indoor dog.) I can totally relate to your problem. I usually leave her chewing on a bone and then I leave cardboard boxes for her to chew up, even those long cardboard rolls- the thick ones that posters come in are great. Yes you still have to pick up mess but it has saved my furniture. Also those Kong toys are a great idea, the ones you put food inside of. They try for hours to get it out. Good Luck. ... Hi, I agree with Darlene, have your vet run a thryroid check. This is very important. My 15 year old cat was very listless and pale, nose and paws. Off we went to the vet and discovered a thyroid problem which in turn can actually attack muscle tissue. Darcy had no other symptoms apart from hunger, up until it was extreme. He is now fine and has a thyroid tablet every two days and also a heart tablet daily. (the heart muscle was affected and he has heart failure). He has been on this medication for around 7 months now and doing fine, still have to watch how much he eats though. Also worm your cat with a good quality all wormer, supermarket brands are not as affective, you can get drontal from your vet. Good luck :) ... View related article.
Hi, first of all well done. Barf is the best way to feed your dogs!!! You say you prepare the food at home, have you tried purchasing the ready made Barf patties? I am in Australia and we buy Barf from Big Dog, where Barf is produced on site, otherwise it is available at pet super stores. The Barf comes in several different varieties chicken, lamb, roo etc. Do you also give the bones, being a small dog you could try cutting up chicken frames, turkey necks etc into smaller pieces to suit. We also buy fish heads...i know it sounds gross but it is so good for them. I applaud you for feeding your dog Barf, we have converted so many people, dry and processed foods are really not healthy for dogs. Ruby my shepherd x Husky, does get sick of certain bones at times, so I just chop and change from chicken to turkey to lamb and so on. Good luck :) ... View related article.
