RE: Homemade Saline Drops
To Amy,
the iodized salt has iodine, not a good thing to use, it will irritate the lining of your nasal passages. Use plain old table salt. Also, make sure that the water is not cold or hot. Too cold and you will feel like you had a drowning incident, too hot, you will of course get burned. YOu want the solution to be as close to normal body temperature as possible and the solution should be as close to normal saline as possible. Amy, google (sinus wash). But don't buy any expensive equipment, use a bulb syringe and you will be fine. ... View related article.

RE: Recalculating Recipe Ingredients
Hi Faye,
This is the best I can do to help you.
See:http://www.farmerjohn.com/Recipes/A ... 86378df-642a-41e2-a173-58f2c97a3dcb.

I am not good at scaling. Normally, I just follow the recipe, so as not to make a disaster. I am afraid that it won't work. Hope this helps anyway.

RE: Keeping Meat that Defrosted
Hi chicklet,
Copy and paste this pdf link into your address bar: http://healthvermont.gov/enviro/food_lodge/documents/safefoodguide.pdf
Go to page 6 of this document. The paragraph is entitled "thawed food". This safety guide is a keeper.
I didn't know much of this before. Sorry about your dilema.

RE: Help with Water Bath Canning
Katie is absolutely right! Please use a pressure canning method. The government says that it just is not safe to use the water bath bath method; It takes the higher temperatures of the pressure canner to completely kill the botulism bacteria.
Happy Canning, Stay Safe with Pressure Canning! You can't go wrong. ... View related article.

RE: Cakes are Not Rising in the Center
Dear Carolyn,
I agree that the oven is not working properly. If you have changed the flour, baking powder, etc, it has got to be the oven that has gone bad. Heck, you are a chef, if your cakes don't rise, you are not to blame, your range is the culprit! ... View related article.
