| RE: Joining Grannie Squares |

Here are two options. 1. Lay two squares together, wrong sides facing each other. Using yarn in a yarn needle, do an overhand stitch in the back loops only. 2. Crochet them together in this manner: SC in front square, CH 2, SC in back square. Usually picking up every other stitch for your SCs works well. Jayne. ... View related article. |

| RE: Save Money Using Powdered Milk |
It's just the two of us, so no kidkins to please, but we live out in the country. I started using the powdered milk just for myself and in cooking. DH was none the wiser about the cooking use. Then we ran out of regular milk a couple times and he had to use the dry milk "in a pinch". Sly me, I always keep it made up, cold, in the refrigerator and we often run out of the other milk. Just last night I was told, you know, this stuff is really good and with gas prices so high and making all these special trips into town for milk, it's such a good idea to have this powdered milk on hand. I think I have a convert! :D --Jayne ... View related article. |

| RE: Custom Embroidery Help |
|
Even if you have a sewing machine that does straight stitches, you can trace a pattern onto your slacks and run several different colors alongside each other. This would look very pretty if the colors were vibrant. You probably already have a color scheme in mind if you loved the pants you saw in the store. Accordingly, you can run simple straight stitches by hand with pretty embroidery thread. When color is involved, the stitches themselves can take a back seat and the color will be what makes your design pretty. Another thing you might do is sew or glue some pretty trims onto the pants to make a nice design. If your pant legs are quite slim, I'd consider taking the extra time to open up the inner leg seam for your project and sewing it back up again when you're done. It will make it go a lot easier and would end up worth the extra time. However, this isn't necessary and if you use hand stitching and glue for your project, you might roll up some newspapers and put them inside the leg while you work. You could also use a rolled towel but your chances of stitching onto it are increased, whereas if you accidentally put your needle & thread through the newspaper, it would just tear off when you're done. This sounds like a fun project. Good luck and enjoy it! --Jayne ... View related article. |

Use beer for the liquid in breadmaking. Gives the yeast a boost and makes nice moist bread. You can even use flat beer for this. I can't imagine it, but if you have part of a can left in the refrig. it would work just as well as opening a new can. --Jayne ... View related article. |
