I don't know if this is the one you are looking for but I have been making these since 1963 for friends and family at christmas. Now they are almost demanded at christmas. From and old Betty Crocker cookbook
Crispy Sugared Walnuts Heat 3 cups walnut halves in moderate oven(375) 5 minutes, stirring once, Butter sides of heavy 2-quart saucepan. In saucepan, combine 1 cup sugar, 1/2 cup water, 1 teaspoon cinnamon and 1/2 teaspoon salt. Heat and stir until sugar dissolves and mixture boils. Cook without stirring to softball stage (236 degrees). Use candy thermometer Remove from heat. Beat by hand about 1 minute or till mixture just begins to get creamy. Add 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla and the warm nuts. Stir gently till nuts are well coated and mixture becomes creamy. Turn out on buttered platter or cookie sheet ( I put waxed paper on cookie sheet) Separate at once using 2 spoons or forks.Let cool. Makes about 1 pound of crunchy Sugared Walnuts. I have an old glass percolator that I use to make Iced tea. If you use something metal, it just doesn't taste the same. I fill up the percolator with water and bring to a boil. Turn off the heat and put in 8 teabags. after it steeps for about 15 minutes , take out the tea bags and pour in about 3/4 to 1 cup sugar. Pour into a gallon container that you have put a good amount of ice in. Fill up to the top with water. This tastes so much better that any store bought or restaurant tea that I have found ...
