RE: Removing Concrete
I used a 5lb malet "John Henry style" (and I'm an older, petit woman, so it can be done) to break up a cement slab over a planter bed the previous owners had put down. the 2 slabs I broke up were abt 8 feet by 2 feet by 5 inches. since we live on a gravel road I used some of it to fill some potholes. a spike and malet might break your block up, but if it's still in decent shape and someone can use it, don't forget abt FreeCycle and Craigslist. ... RE: Building Trust in Abused Cat
I've seen not only cats reason, but, believe it or not, I've seen spiders reason. There is more to the creatures of this world than mankind has acknowledged! Leo does reason, and so I am very careful with him, since he's already sensitized. I'll keep working, I think it will come, it's just been a bit hard for him lately. I think it's the static from dry indoor heat is stinging him. With that knowledge, perhaps we can calm him down, now. ... View related article.

RE: Buying Candle Stick Inserts
Thank you, I did check a few craft stores online, and at the dollar store, our pharmacy which carries candles and holders and a few other places. they have the big glass ones, I need small metal ones. also checked Ebay, there is a set of 30 (way too many) but they are much deeper, a little narrower and have almost no lip-and look goldtone/brass to me, I need "white" metal-pewter colored. mine are heavy, are an inch across inside, and have lips a little wider than 1/4 inch. I can take a matching set that comes close to that. they must be out there, somewhere! ... View related article.

RE: Tried and True Recipes for a Healthier Diet
I don't have specific recipes in part because each family is different-we have health issues that keeps our salt intake low, where that may not work for you. but I will suggest the two best healthfood books I've ever found, both written years ago.

Diet For a Small Planet

Let's Eat Right

you may find they lean toward Vegan, but not completely, and you can always incorporate meat and dairy into a Vegan meal. play with it. also, there are tons of websites online, I've checked a number of them, focusing on our need to limit salt for both of us and sugar for my husband, both of which are part of the weight problem, anyway. ... RE: Participating in Clinical Trials
Vitamin E is a natural healer. but if it's genetic, it can take something more than that. But try daily doses and slathering (it's sticky, so spread it thin) of vitamin E for a while and see if it helps. You can continue to use it if you do get on medication. Have you googled for health sites? I know I found a clinical list for my genetic disease recently. Try googling "clinical research" or "clinical testing", and add skin or excema (sp?) to it as well. ... View related article.

RE: Use Insect Repellent To Remove Permanent Marker
Never, ever use bug spray for anything if possible, or if you must, only for bugs! (though that's what's ruining the echosystem). Bug spray has neurotoxins in it, and it can put you in the hospital, even kill you.
Little kids and animals suffer worse because they're small and can't take much, but adults can be affected quite thoroughly, as well. Never breath it or get it on your skin (it absorbs it). a sign of poisoning is tingling/buzzing feeling in extremities and skin, especially around the nose and mouth if you've really been hit by it. lethargy is another warning sign. don't let it get any further than the tingling, tissue starts to die. This is serious stuff, and can build up over time if you keep using even just a little of it at a time. ... View related article.

RE: Natural Treatments for Hyperactivity in Children
Preservatives really aggravate this, so a completely organic diet will really help. No sugars of any sort, either. I heard somewhere that it is partly caused by the diet of the gestating mother that causes these problems, so if anyone reading this is pregnant, or thinking of getting pregnant, switch to an organic diet. No smoking or drugs, legal or otherwise, either. and home make your baby food, keeping sugar, salt and preservatives out of it.

Don't feed toddlers and children under 15 years of age fast food or processed food of any sort. I have a multiplicity of problems thanks to my mother's diet, smoking, and illness. I did not create it with my own diet, all of my issues are from during my pre-birth period. So if you want healthy children, live a healthy lifestyle. I was told when I was trying to conceive that living a healthy lifestyle for a year before conceiving greatly improved the odds of a child surviving. ... View related article.

RE: Cooking With Chiles
I grew my first peppers this year, jalepeno (small ones, the largest are no more than 2 inches long) a curly unnamed pepper, (anyone know?) and habeneros. it's just days away from our annual October freeze, and all the peppers will ripen just in the nick of time-but the habeneros took the longest, not fruiting until late July or early September, and then dragging their feet about coming to color.

I'm harvesting them when they're tri-colored, green at the bottom, yellow in the middle and orange or red at the top, and throwing them in a baggy in the freezer for flavor in the winter. I have abt 10 habenero left on the bush, most of which have some color but are not quite ready. there's around 6 of the curly pepper and 5 jalepeno left.

Question, can I save these plants over winter in a freeze prone area? or will they die? how do I save them? they are nice plants, I hate for them to die, but we have nothing to generate warmth for them. digging them up and potting them is tempting, but I have nowhere to store them over winter, and it is kind of hard on a plant to be pulled up once it's set in the ground. ...
