Profile For Mr. Thrifty - I Just Like To Reuse Things

What I do isn't new but in this desposible world it has become uncool.

I make it my goal to find alternative uses for almost everything.

WHY? I guess for my piece of mind letting me think I can make a small difference.

Immagination the reuse of your own minds is the key.

Once you start doing this you will at the very least save money  and ennergy by not buying new objects. An extra bonus is you can feel the self confidence that you did something yourself.

So Happy Reusing  From Your

RE: Recycling Newspaper Throughout The House
Reusing Newspaper? I was just asked the other day about this subject.
I rarely buy a newspaper anymore,so I have little experience in reusing them.

One thing Scrap booking
cutting out and saving articles for future generations.
I just found some old articles in my Grandmas pictures.

I have been told that shredded newspaper added to your garden soil is good for it.
I know of one person that adds it to her inside flower pots in little bits.
i remember many years ago we use to stick compressed newspaper in draft spots around our windows.

We also used newspaper to take the dampness from our wet shoes and boots.

Don't forget you fireplace people there is a way of making logs out of newspaper. some kind of machine you can buy.
Thinking back my mother would put newspaper on the floor right inside the kitchen door for us to put our wet cloths on. I guess that was before plastic lol I didn't know I was that old.

Well I gave you a few old ways to reuse newspaper. For once I could not come up with anything new. That is weird for me.
Good Luck To You, Mr. Thrifty ... View related article.

RE: Shredded Paper Craft Ideas
The idea of creating a picture from a coloriful shreaded paper source comes to mind.

first draw the line boundaries of your picture.
then raise those lines by gluing maybe yarn the same colour as the bits of paper you would be using in that area.

then with a brush paint the glue between the yarn lines and add the coloured shredded bits of paper.

Have I done this?
Not yet !
This subject got me to thinking about it.
I will be doing a small piece as soon as I figure out what picture I will try to create.

Right now I am thinking of a flower type picture.
Anyway Good Luck

RE: Cereal Boxes to Organize Craft Supplies
Yes paperboard cereal boxes are handy..I make file folders out of them. I am presently putting kids stickers on them cutting them out to make stencils and stamps. I weatherized my windows and doors last winter with them
I use them for throw away cutting boards, also place mats for picnics. I have used them as picture frames also to be filler in back of picture frames. If you want to make homemade game boards they are ready to go. If anyone still made cut out paper dress up dolls anymore those boxes would be great.

Oh one other thing, The bags inside those cereal boxes have many uses also

RE: Ideas for Reusing Large Size Creamer Bottles
A Container will always be a container, Only you limit its possibilities.
It can store most anything but raw food products which the plastic might leech upon.
It can be decorated anyway you want. You supervise all it creation.

How would I reuse this coffee creamer container? I most likely would cut it into two sections .
The bottom section into some kind of personally decorated vase. The tube section set aside to protect early spring plants from frost plus the rest of the time using it to store the still too many plastic bags I recieve from stores.

Oh, I forgot. The Cap. I have this habit of cutting the top of plastic jars to include the screw on part,so the cap can be used as game pieces. What a pity most of us do not play real games with boards and things anymore.
I guess I am one of the few throwbacks that does.

Anyway you do what you like. Imagination acts differently with each of us. Isn't that GREAT!

RE: Use Plastic Grocery Bags for Packing Material
Also try using those cereal box bags in youur shipping containers. you can inflate them and seal them to act as a cushion.
as a matter of fact as stongs as they are. you could wrap your item in one. there will nbe little danger of it being pierced. I know that because of all the trouble I have opening these bags to get the cereal.

PACK ON

RE: Kids And Crafts: Keep It Simple
Give these children an empty soda bottle and asked them to figure out what to do with it. Just the container and cap itself has many possibilities. Tell them they are the inventor. I would bet you they will come up with many ways to reuse that bottle and cap.
Ok I will give you 5

Fiil the clear plastic bottle up with coloured waste paper for an art project. That same bottle after it iis dom=ne can become a safe Lawn Dart.

Stand your bottle on the cap. Surprise it stands steady that way. Ok, then figure out what you want to put into that bottle that will always rise when turned over. much like those winter snow scene shakers only you add food colouring to the water.
The bottle caps can be decorated and turned into game pieces like marbles or checkers. Take a pour nozzle of any dishwashing detergent bottle and it will screw on the soda bottle any size presto you have a watering can for flowers or a squirt gun for summer fun by squeezing the bottle.

You can make crafts out of most trash with just a little thought. Have Fun, Mr. Thrifty ... View related article.

RE: Reusing Plastic Pens
On reevaluating the plastic pen body itself. I can see unique earrings, neckleces, pins ,bracelets and even money clips being fashioned. Lets face it these plastics come in every colour(that is a big plus). The key is how to cut them. Some kind of saw blade? Perhaps melting and reshaping I just had another thought, creating buttons out of plastic pen barrels.

Amazing isn't it when we tune ourselves into possibilities, instead of just tosing items into trash cans. That plastic trash can itelf could in reality be fashion out of plastic pens melted and molded.
Yes we are talking about some toxics fumes, energy spent,in remanufacturing, but if we do it on lets say just one of a kind scale. We as a whole could stop countless landfills being filled up.

Yes, those plastic pens take up space in those dumps, and they might still be there in a thousands of years.

You know our ancestors must be rolling over in their graves. The way we waste stuff. REUSE was always their key to having a better life.

Thank you All Again For All Your Ideas

RE: Reusing Plastic Pens
Thank you, for all your very good ideas for the reuse of plastic pens.
I would bet there are plenty more out there. Don't be shy if the idea works for you ,then it is a good one. I wonder if it would be possible to make a basket just out od plastic pens?

Someone out there like to try? Perhaps glueless using some kind of strong thread and needle, and wrapping them the opposite way with small strips of tighten cloth. Hey how about one of you trying it?
I have only a few plastic pens left in my house. I made a small base of a basket and started fashioning a crude handle. Reuse what a beautiful word.

RE: Use Vinegar for Cleaning Purposes
Hospitals using vineger?
I took my wife into a local Emergency Room about 2 years ago.
i looked around and found many uncleaned areas that had to be that way for days. Dust ,stains built up dirty wax on the floor .
Even the table she where she laid the underneath mecanicals were filthy.
I would have settled even for a viniger cleaning of that area.
I was a school custodian for 18 years.
At first we cleaned with some soap , sometimes ammonia. and sometimes a little bleach.
Later they kept changing soaps, then went to germicides . They Forbid us to use Ammonia and Bleach only on human fluid spills.
As we all know germs and bacteria get use to and become tolarent of most any chemical including germicides.
Did I sneek in viniger ? yes my last couple of years I used it in summer cleaning . It cleaned well.
Oh by the way, my school district change the germicide comp[ound 3 times in my last 5 years.
Most likely because of price.
Hey we still had our share of stapt infections at my school after germiciide.
The district was always telling us to use less of the germicides. When we used less it cleaned worse.
Was it killing germs ? Colds were still common .
They would never tell us if a student had HIV
wE were issues cheap plastic disposable gloves and red plastic bags for all fluid clean ups.
i sometimes wonder if man would not have got so fancy with his artificial cleaners and stuck to things like vineger. Would we be much more healthier?
I guess we will never know.
