| RE: Garden Themed Ideas for Girl Scout Daisy Troop |
|
Hi Debbie, Welcome to Scouting. I wish you all the joy that being a leader has brought to me, And more . We made bird feeders out of recycled clean bleach jugs. With girls as young as yours you will want to pre cut an oval opening in jug. Small hole to insert twig perch. The Girls can decorate it. hang by fishing line tied to top of handle. Twigs glued to sloping part of top look good as a roof. They have foam flowers that are inexpensive that can be glued on. I have found that markers are too messy. You can also Google a lot of cheap nature crafts. best wishes, Barb ... View related article. |

| RE: Crystallized Cat Urine |
Hi Don, Urinary blockages are a painful life threatening Problem for male cats. My young male had a lot of problems. We would buy the low ash food from the vet and would have to pay to get him unblocked every so often. It was painful for him and a drain of money for us. We decided to opt for the surgery to in essence, get him a sex change. He was already newtered. The doc removed the remaining penis and enlarged the urinary tract. It has been over five years now, No problems I am glad to say. The surgery ran about $1200. You should make sure that they are drinking plenty of fresh clean water.
The crystals block the tract and the cat cannot urinate, the bladder enlarges, can explode, The cat is in agony in the mean time. A low ash diet can help. I found that in our case it did not help enough. There is a lot of info out there on the "net" But the best advice I can give is Take them to the vet. It is a horrible way to die. The substance you are finding is concentrated urine and blood. The cat will urinate in odd places because they are so uncomfortable, They are trying anything to get it out. Your cat is in pain. A lot of pain. One trip to the vet will not cost you that much, At least you will get the best answer for you. Best of luck to you all. Barb ... View related article. |

| RE: Stop Using Fabric Softener to Prevent Musty Towels |
I too have had musty smelling towels. I do not or ever have put them in the hamper while wet or damp. I think that it has something to do with where you live and the humidity. I never use fabric softener's any more, they are loaded with petrochemicals.Vinegar and borax work well to eliminate the musty smell, and soften.
I have also found that a good line dry on a bright sunny day will work wonders. When I can't do that I will take them to the laundry mat and run them with some bleach. I only have to do that every so often. I was a fabric softener JUNKY for many years and it was hard to give up at first.I would never go back, My clothes are soft and fresh smelling.
My problem is static cling in the winter with all the fleece sweaters and blankets. Dryer sheets are out of the question, Any suggestions for something natural to add to the dryer to cut down static cling? I do not use gimicky things like dryer balls, As seen on tv stuff rarely works. Thanks to all. Thrifty fun is awesome! ... View related article. |

| RE: Freezing Scalloped Potatoes |
Hi, I froze scalloped potatoes and the potato's turned black and mushy. I tried every kind of way and had to accept the fact that potatoes do not freeze well, I had some mixed results with mashed. Your biggest problem is convincing him to eat healthy foods.
If you are the main cook in the house, I would suggest some sneaky ways for a while. You can mix whole wheat pasta with regular pasta for a while and wean him off regular pasta. If it is combined with a white wine, herb, and no fat no salt chicken stock (Sauce) for a while he will get used to a new way to eat!
Grill or broil chicken breast with lemon and herbs. If the food is not bland he will like it better. Carbs and fat will kill him quickly. If he must have red meat, bison steaks are Tasty and low fat! I would trick him into eating healthy for a while. Explore the health food stores. Splenda has lots of recipes for no sugar baking as well. And it tastes good too! Best of luck! ... | RE: Helping a Hurt Back |
|
Hi Donna, I am sorry to read about your back pain. I have suffered with two bulging discs most of my life. My mother has bad back pain as well . If you can, My best advice is to go to the Doctor, You may need Xrays or a MRI so that the Doc can diagnose your problem. I take Naproxen sodium that I buy in Wal Mart (ALEVE) And I take a hot shower. I then lay down on my back with pillows under my knees. My Mom on the other hand, Likes to use a cold pack, Then she lay's down with a heating pad. Every one is different. Be carefull with Medication's some people have had bad reactions to the Naproxen. In any case you should stay off it untill you feel better. A pulled muscle or disc damage takes time to heal. If you do to much you risk futher injury. I hope you have a good support system, Husband, Mom or friend that can help you. You may have to let the upkeep of the house slide for a while. If you cant rest you cant heal. I wish you a speedy recovery. ... View related article. |

| RE: What Goes Around Comes Around |
Karyn, Your story was great. I have had the same experience with Freecycle. I have met some Generous, kind people who really do care about our environment. The Idea behind it is to keep items that still have use in them out of land fills, And to help other people. I have been gifted with many items that have improved my living space. I have as well gifted other people with items that they needed. We all have something to give.
My Mother loves my freecycle adventures as she was a depression baby. And she really likes to ride with me. I have made friends far and wide in my county. And The feeling of paying it forward, Is good for my soul. To be kind and generous, In what can be a greedy highest bidder world Is part of what keeps goodness in my life. Thrifty fun is awesome as well. Where else is there such a collection of wisdom? My life has been improved by this site. The best things in life ARE free! ... View related article. |

| RE: Request: Valentine's Day Question |
|
We make handmade cards for each other in my household. Google eyes and pipe cleaners help to give them whimsy. For co-workers some candy or a small candle, The box of kids cards from the dollar store are a safe bet as well. My advice is to be carefull in the workplace. you dont want sexual harrasment charges!!. Also, you dont want to mislead people into thinking you have feelings that are not there. If there IS someone you like and want to give them a hint, Do it outside the workplace. I once liked someone at a job, And gave them flowers and a small card. The card said that I had a crush on them. The person then showed EVERYONE, And embarrased me. He was not discreet. ( my feelings changed quickly) I focus as well on people who wont be getting anything. I have been known to do ding-dong ditch, on valentines day. AH, LOVE!! ... View related article. |
