RE: Book About Kids Taking Over The World
This looks interesting, think I'll check it out--another book along those same lines you might like is "Z for Zachariah" about a 12-year old girl who survives a catastrophe by her wits, alone on her parents' farm, until one day a stranger wanders into her valley--friend or foe?...I think it's supposed to be geared toward teenage readers, but I remember enjoying it. For adults, a great but out-of-print book about surviving a disaster in America is "Earth Abides" by George Stewart, available for ordering on the Internet.

RE: King Sized Bed in a Small Room
I have a small room with no storage, so I put up the bed on 6" risers (available from Linens 'n' Things, or Bed, Bath and Beyond in my area, probably from Target or Walmart, too). Then I stored my things in plastic bins on casters---also available cheaply from the above stores-- Even if you have to put the bed in a corner, there's an amazing amount of space under it! If you have access to a handyperson, the bed could even be lifted more to make room for a small dresser or two underneath, by building a plywood platform to turn it into a loft-type bed with one mattress, something I did once to make room for my desk and bookshelves...loved it!
