I have reused the paper towels that I dry my freshly washed hands on for the next dirty job; like spills, etc. We have recently omitted paper towels from our home but certainly see the cleanliness/convenience factor. my fav 'from scratch' meal that is Great Northern Bean soup. This soup basically kept my family alive when I was growing up. If we didn't have bean soup, we had nothing and we went to bed.
A bag of beans, rinsed and soaked over night; rinsed again then put in a pot with twice as much water. Salt it up. Bring to boil then simmer until beans split and the starch makes a broth. Stir every once in awhile. That will help the broth.
That's it. Salt and pepper each bowl to taste. I now make my soup in a crockpot and just let it go all day, or even overnight on the weekend. With crackers, it's lunch. With fried potatoes and biscuits, it's dinner. po' folk food done right ;^) ... View related article.
I have used flat sheets before... just staple them up over the unfinished wall. A king size flat sheet from a dollar general/family dollar is pretty cheap and if removed carfully; you can reuse it later. Hope this helps! ... View related article.
My shredder is a 'cross cut' type and the paper is actually like confetti. I use this as mulch in my garden, bedding for my worms and the 'brown' in my cold compost pile.
