RE: Use Red Clay Saucer for Baking Stone
What a Great idea! And these saucers cost so much less than purchasing a pizza stone too. And another plus is the fact that you can have different sizes. Especially a personal pan pizza. You get 2 thumbs up! ... View related article.

RE: Anthurium Blooms Turning Brown
This plant looks like a Peace Lily. They need low light, which is good for a room with little light.
The Peace Lily is not a good one to have around cats. It is toxic to cats. I believe it is a member of the Lily family, and any plant in the Lily family is not good around animals that might be tempted to eat a part of it.
Let your water sit overnight before watering your plants. That way if there is chlorine or anything else in your water, it will evaporate. Stick your finger in the soil to determine if it is dry and needs watering. Lots of luck with your Peace Lily. ... View related article.

RE: Using Up Ripe Bananas
Great minds think alike! ha This is such an easy thing to do, and there is no waste to the bananas. Kids just won't eat them when they get over ripe.

To freeze the over-ripe bananas, I mash them with a potato masher. Put the mashed banana in a zip-lock freezer bag, squeeze all the air out, and place in freezer. By freezing them one banana at a time, they are easily used for what-ever recipe. Some call for 3 bananas, some for more. So there are always enough bananas to make banana bread or muffins.

RE: Homemade Halloween Costume Ideas for a Toddler
Sweat pants and tops are really the easiest thing to use. Others agree with me.
To make a Baby Bumble Bee: Purchase a black top and pants.
Purchase about 1/4 yard ( or less) of bright yellow fabric.
Cut, or tear the fabric in 3-inch wide strips.
Hand baste the strips to the black top. Make rather wide stitches, beautiful stitching doesn't matter with this.:)
Place several fabric strips around the top, making the bee's stripes. ( I left the arms alone. Just put the fabric on the front and back of the top.

Using old t-shirts or whatever you have, slightly pad the top. Again baste this to the inside of the top, using black thread. Bees like to have rather puffy tummies.ha
Although you said your child did not like a hat, I purchased a child's black toboggan cap. Stuck long yellow pipe cleaners into the top of the cap. Secured them on the underneath with tape. And glued fuzzy pom-poms to each pipe cleaner for the antennas. Black socks can be worn on the hands if you want.
Didn't decorate the pants at all, or the tennis shoes. This was so cute. And as the weather gets chilly around Halloween, the sweat suit kept him warm. ... View related article.

RE: Gift Ideas for Someone Studying Abroad
Of course he will appreciate anything that you send! Put together an assortment of things that he can't purchase abroad. Such as the newest book to hit the market, chewing gum, a new calender for 2010 maybe of vintage cars, or something else that would interest him. A new Tshirt in his favorite color.( wash it first, and he will enjoy the wonderful "smell" from home) individual packets of instant coffee. Individual packets of drink mixes to add to bottled water. Maybe even a new stainless steel water bottle that has a filter with it, add an extra filter. Those filters sure improve the taste of water.

A pair of lounging pants. A ball cap in his favorite team colors. Even some beef jerky is appreciated. Fix him his own Christmas stocking filled with candy and little things that you know he would enjoy. Everybody needs a stocking for Christmas, no matter their age.
You will be thinking of more things now. Have fun filling the box.

The US Post Office has boxes that cost one fee; s much as you can stuff into the box. You'd be surprised at how much you can stuff into a box! We have sent many a box full of things to Iraq. They always are amazed at how much was in the box! ... View related article.

RE: Kids Jacket Swap
Another good idea is to take a clean outgrown jacket to an nearby elementary school.
Last year when the cold weather set in, one of our schools put out a plea for winter coats. This one school had over 100 children who did not have a warm jacket. I know that is hard to believe. But there are children who just do not have warm clothing.
Folks here donated good clean jackets for both boys and girls. There were more boys than girls who did not have warm clothing. Some of the churches purchased knit caps and scarves, and donated them.
So don't throw warm clothing away. Let the school give a jacket to a child. They can do it easily, and no one has to know that particular child was without a coat, or a jacket.

RE: Getting Rid of Wild Violets
Those wild violets are so pretty! If you don't like having them, place an ad in Freecycle, or on Craig's List offering them to whoever wants them. You can dig up the clump when folks come to claim them.
Or dig'em up and plant them in a bare spot at the closest school, or the library, or at the entrance to your subdivision, or anywhere there is a bare spot. They are so pretty. ... View related article.

RE: Watching TV Without Disturbing Others
Have you ever thought about putting the "captions" or words on the screen? You can read the words or captions and understand what is happening with the particular show you are watching.

My aunt relies on the words or captions, especially when the news is on, or the weather. She can't hear what is happening unless the volume is turned way up. But having the words on the screen is a big help to her, and to others in the family too! ... View related article.
