RE: Squirrel Proof Bird Feeder
Google "Wild Birds Unlimited" and they have a feeder that I have and it works. The squirrel gets on the feeder and the weight of the squirrel closes the ports and he can't get the food. After a few times he learns he can't get the food. I have the feeder #3030 and it works. ... View related article.

RE: In Memory of Tommy (Cat)
Sorry about Tommy. I know how hard it is. I had a 13 yr old kitty that got diabetes and a gastrointestional desease. She (Punky) was a joy in my life. I now have a cat 17 years old and he is fine now but don't know when he will deteriorate. They sure give us more than we do them. He has been real lovey in the last 2 years and it will be hard when the time comes. In fact my Thrifty Fun name is his name Rasta. ... View related article.

RE: Making Apple Butter
I use Jonagolds or any type sweet apple therefore I don't have to use but a little sugar. I only used 1 cup of sugar to 16 cups of sauce and it was plenty sweet. My recipe is:
16 cups homemade sauce
1 cup splenda brown sugar or 2 cups reg. brown sugar
1 20-oz. can crushed pineapple in its own juice
2 tblsp. cinnamon

Put ingredients in a roaster and bake at 350 until thick stirring every half hour. Put in sterilized pint jars and process by water bath. Makes 5-6 pints. When I give this for gifts everyone raves at the flavor. ... View related article.

RE: Stop Children From Arguing
Good idea! I had a problem with tattling. She did this he did that type of thing. My mother-in-law was at our house visiting and she stopped it. She fixed a tail out of an old panty hose leg and they had to wear it for 15 min. Well the tattling stopped fast. I also told them there was a difference in tattling and if they or someone was in danger or hurt or needed attention and we went over those things as well. ... View related article.

RE: Beautiful Fall Leaves
I found a similar leaf of a maple tree a few years back and put it on my bulletin board to enjoy and it lasted a long time. Some say if you put it between waxed paper after it has dried it will last even longer. I've not tried it. Thanks for sharing your part of the world with us. Happy fall! ... View related article.

RE: Check For Weevils in Stored Food
Sandi, in the years of all my cooking I have done the same type goofs. Just two months ago I was making the most delicious breakfast and grabbed the fat free half and half to make my gravy a little creamier and it was spoiled. Like you I didn't check it before I poured. I almost cried. We ate dry cereal that day. This won't be your last goof nor will it be mine. ... View related article.

RE: Do Copperhead Snakes Have a Cucumber Odor?
I remember living on a farm in So.Illinois and my mom would go to the garden to weed and saying she smelled a coperhead snake and it smelled to her like cucumbers and sure enough she would see one and she was a good shot with a hoe and killed it. I don't know how she got by with it all those years and didn't get bit. She was a very daring woman in my book. Lots of times a King snake would swallow the poison snakes. Mom never killed the King snakes. She did know her snakes and I guess in her way was cautious but I hated the sight of them and ran to the house. I still hate the snakes and when they are on TV I go to another channel and won't look at them. HAHA I live in Tennessee on the outskirts of Chattanooga and have not seen one since the 5 years we have been here but do know they are slithering around just waiting for me some day. ... RE: Should I Choose Brown or White Eggs?
This was a trick question in one of our Home Economics tests when I was in high school many years ago and I was the only one to get it right. There is no difference. The white egg is from chickens fed bagged food in commercial chicken houses. The brown shelled eggs come from chickens which eat grasses, etc and are free in a farm setting. ... View related article.
