| RE: Help With Name For Home Based Decorating Business |
What do you want people to think when they see your work? I used to do interior deorative painting. I named my business KoolRooms Wall Design because when I was done with a room, customers would say "Wow, cool room". (also, Kool was a play on my maiden name). I have been connected to the interior decorating business a few years and I have never heard of the "flip flop contessa style"...(wasn't there a 50's Bogie movie called The Barefoot Contessa"?) heck, half my customers pronounced FAUX finishing like FOX finishing. Even if your target market is upper class they may still be ignorant of industry terminology or trends. Most important, make it easy to remember. ... View related article. |

| RE: Removing Paint Dust On Clothing |
|
I'd try a stiff bruch first. If that doesn't work, you may be able to remove the paint with either rubbing alcohol if it's latex, or mineral spirits if it's oil-based. Use a clean cloth and work it in then blot it off. Test a less noticible area first...it may affect your fabric. Rinse off and then launder. ... View related article. |

| RE: Keeping Grass Stains Off Wedding Dress |
If you haven't bought a dress yet, consider a 50's style mid shin dress. If I had it to do all over again, I would have worn a dress that style (they are particularly flattering for smaller waisted/big hipped women like myself.
If you've already purchased a long dress with a train, I'd focus on suspending it above the grass rather than removing stains afterward or pre-treating it with grass stain repellant (ha ha...if something like that exists)
Unless you plan on handing the dress down to your children, let it stain! Perhaps a little grass stain will bring back beautiful memories. ... View related article. |

| RE: Trouble With A Sewing Machine |

Thanks for the feedback. I have tightened and loosened that smaller wheel and I still can't get the big wheel to engage the moving parts. When I rotate the smaller wheel counter clockwise it seems to have the force needed to make the parts move BUT when I turn the bigger wheel counter clockwise it won't engage. Also, when I turn the power on, same thing...with the little wheel tightened as it should be, the "big wheel keep on turnin" counter clockwise and doesn't engage. ... View related article. |

| RE: Removing Dried Paint From Roller Blinds |
|
If your paint is latex (water-wash-up) then rubbing alcohol should disolve it. If it is oil-base, then mineral spirits may work. I'd try a small less noticable area to test out first...Either could react with whatever your blinds are made of. (If you use mineral spirits, you need to wash it off afterward as it is flammable.) ... View related article. |

| RE: Painting Back Splash Tiles |

Just make sure you prep the surface properly. Tiles are usually shiny and will need to be properly prepared so paint will adhere to it. The folks at the paint dept. of any hardware or big box store can recommend the best surface prep and primer. ... View related article. |

| RE: Wallpapering Panels of Old Wardrobe |

You should sand it slightly to create a "tooth" for the next application to adhere to. Make sure you remove all dirt and dust. Next, use an oil-based primer to seal in the varnish. (you don't want it leaching through). After the primer cures, put the wallpaper on. No need to paint, primer is less expensive anyway. ... View related article. |

When I did this with lace I put them about 3 inches apart...but as another response here said, it will depend on the weight of your fabric. Once you decide how many you need, get one package extra. (heck, they are on clearance, right?) ... View related article. |

| RE: Looking For Information On Oshkosh, Wisconsin |
I am originally from Wisconsin and currently live in Minnesota. Although I have never lived in Oshkosh, I have been there a few times and think it is a beautiful little city. Population is about 45,000 and it is growing due to its proximity to Green Bay/Lake Winnebago.
The University of Wisconsin system is excellent. Oshkosh is home to the world famous Oshkosh Air Show. My sister lives in near by Appleton/Neenah (home of Kimberly Clark, her employer) A lot of natural beauty and shopping...what a combo!
I think Neenah or Oshkosh would be an excellent place to raise kids, and I assume the schools are good (as are many in the midwest) however I would research the web for actual numbers.
Down side: The weather. Minneapolis (where I now live) is on a similar latitude. Below zero wind chills and lots of snow are not uncommon from November through March...on the upside of that downside, cold weather seems to keep crime down!
Be aware, the packer fans in that part of Wisconsin are RABID...this might be a good thing or bad thing depending on your opinion of the Packers.
If I didn't want to move to the south (I hate winter) so bad, I would consider that area to settle. Ironically I have my eyes on the home of the last poster...North Carolina! ... View related article. |

| RE: Painting Metal Shelves In Refrigerator |
I would do the following: 1. Make sure your metal shelves are very clean, as paint will adhere poorly if they have residue on them. 2. Sand lightly to create a "tooth" for new paint to grip onto. (steel wool suggestion is good). Make sure you wipe off any shavings and dust. 3. Apply a rusty metal primer. You can find this at a hardware or big box store in either spray paint or oil-base brush on paint.Even though you didn't say your shelves were rusty, the mottling you described could be indicitive of corrosion. 4. Choose either a metallic-look spray paint to simulate the aluminum or else a white gloss to simulate enamel coated racks. 5. Sealing with a clear gloss may or may not be required dending on the durability of the paint you used. NOTE: Make sure the paint you use is exterior as the inside of your fridge gets cold and wet...not unlike the the elements outside. ... View related article. |
