| RE: Salmon (Mackerel) Gravy |
|
How do you make the gravy? What are the ingredients? How do you cook it? I make brown gravy with broth, chicken gravy with chicken broth, and sausage/milk gravy with milk and fat. So which one is it? If this is the "recipe," then where are the ingredients and instructions? ... View related article. |

| RE: Macaroni and Spam |
|
Spam is not economical at ALL, and it is full of fat and salt! Apound of ground beef or a couple nice big chicken breasts is only a few cents more than a can of spam. Why would I use processed food when I can have fresh? I'm not sure how the myth that spam is cheaper than other meats got started, but it needs to be put to rest. ... View related article. |

| RE: Mayonnaise for Lice |
Mayo does NOT kill eggs, and the mayo method will only get about 80% of the eggs. In two weeks, the rest of them will hatch and you will be right back at this all over again (and spreading them all over your house!!). I have dealt with head lice for YEARS since my ex-husband has them and won't take care of it, my kids come back infested every time they visit. We found a better solution. DENOREX SHAMPOO. It is made with coal tar. Wash DAILY with this shampoo, for at least one week, two if you can. When you put it on, lather it up and wait ten minutes, then rinse. You will be lice-free, and your child will be pesticide-free too. A bottle of Denorex will last two full weeks, and costs less than a bottle of lice shampoo. The Denorex works by killing off any lice that have hatched that day, before they can lay eggs. So by being consistent and washing every day for a week (or two) you get the whole cycle of hatching nits.
Also, you MUST clean bed clothes and pillows. Simply running them through the dryer on the hottest cycle for 30 minutes will kill any lice on the bedding (you can do this with pillows and most stuffed animals too). You will also need to do this daily as well, until the infestation stops.
Additional measures to try: lice like coarse hair. If your child has coarse hair, try applying a good creme rinse or conditioner after the shampoo. The lice are unable to attach their eggs to the hair because the hair is now "slick." Also, the use of styling products and hairsprays also prevents lice from laying eggs that attach.
Any nits you can see and that are further than 2 cm from the root are "empty" or "dead" nits. These are eggs that have already hatched. There is no need to remove them or otherwise bother with them, they will fall off after a few shampoos (looks likes dandruff). The nits that will hatch are the ones right at the root and no more than 2 cm away from the root. They tend NOT to be white and you can't really see them unless you have really good light and a magnifying glass. These are the nits you're trying to get rid of...these are the eggs that have been laid but not hatched yet. Denorex does work on those nits. ... View related article. |

| RE: Coconut Oil Stain on Clothing |
|
Anything oily and greasy needs extra care before washing. Try hand-rubbing a bit of dawn dishwashing liquid on the stain, let sit, then was as usual. DO NOT DRY until the stain is completely removed. You may need to wash several times with the Dawn as a pre-treater. ... View related article. |

| RE: Removing Starch from Doilies |
|
If the wash didn't take it out, then I'll just bet it wasn't starched to begin with! I have some wonderful crocheted christmas tree ornaments that I thought were starched but obviously aren't, after 20 years they still look amazing. They are covered with some sort of plastic coating. I'll bet your doily was done the same way, it was preserved with something permanent. Starch always dissolves in water. ... View related article. |

| RE: Save Money by Making Your Own Hair Products |
Mayo and honey aren't cheaper than conditioners that you can buy in the store so saying this is "frugal" is kind of a lie. The only advantage to mayo and honey is that they are mostly natural products that many people already have on hand.
The best way to have shiny, silky hair naturally is not to overwash it and to stay away from blow dryers and hot sunshine. ... View related article. |

| RE: Renovating the Floor of My Lanai (Covered Patio) |
|
You should first patch it to get it smooth again. Any good hardware store can sell you concrete patch. And because you have standing water and weathering, I would recommend floor/deck paint. It may sound expensive, but two coats and you will not have to mess with that floor for years to come! I once painted my basement floor (concrete) and didn't have to repaint for the 12 years I lived there; it looked great. And if I remember correctly, the paint wasn't that much more expensive than regular house paint. Make sure you get floor/deck paint. ... View related article. |

| RE: Remembering My Login |
|
My best advice is to always use the same username and password, no matter what site you are signing up for. Then you don't have to remember something different for each place, and you will always remember it. I use my screenname everywhere, or if that is taken, I use my first and middle initial and my last name. I ALWAYS use the same password, no matter what. It saves me a lot of hassle!! ... | RE: An Animal Died In Our Camper |
Treat the area where the animal died, and several inches around, with a mix of 1 part baking soda and 3 parts activated charcoal. You can get this in the pet section of the store. Put a thick layer of it on the spot, then leave the camper closed up for 24 hours. Vacuum up and reapply. Do this three or four times until you notice the smell abating.
This also works great in those moldy stuffy fridges that have been closed up and turned off...a pan of this mix in the freezer and in the refrigerator, let the fridge run closed up for two days, and the odor will go away. ... View related article. |

I almost never do this, as spoons and forks have a nasty way of "nesting" and then they come out dirty with food stuck between them. I have taught the kids to separate them well so that this doesn't happen. ... View related article. |
