RE: Dealing With Ant Hills
Hi there, and so sorry to hear of your ant hill problem!! I used to get the BIGGEST ant hills. They were GIANT. The BEST thing I found was to pour a pot of BOILING water on the largest hill first, and then move down the line... I had 4 pots going at once. lol.. Make sure to let the water saturate the soil, as ant hills can kind of 'shed' some of the water. Do this THOROUGHLY one morning and then again that night, and you will be RID of all those nasty hills.

What could be more simple than BOILING WATER?? LOVED IT. It is now something I do each year, and kind of look forward to it, as funny as that may seem. It just works so well!!

Best of luck!! ... View related article.

RE: Save Beef and Veggie Leftovers In The Freezer
My dad made this soup when I was a growing up... we called it "Sunday, Monday, Tuesday..... Soup". i make it for my family of 5, and even the picky eater of the family LOVES it.

IT IS ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL!!

We add pasta, you name it! MY TIP: KEEP A SEPARATE CONTAINER FOR CHICKEN BASED DISHES. Then you can add your left-overs to which ever freezer container you desire. My favorite part is to 'build' these in my mind with my left overs over the month. This soup makes the most amazing aroma when cooking it... mmmm....

I HIGHLY HIGHLY ADVISE YOU TO TRY IT!!! FANTASTIC POST!! ... View related article.

RE: Homemade Deep Litter Box
I LOVE YOUR IDEA!! I've been using a 'wrapping paper' rubbermaid type container for a couple of years. I LOVE them because they fit nicely against the wall in my basement, and with two kitties... NO SMELL!!

My kitties are a bit modest, and this will be PERFECT for them!! For those of you who like the idea of using this type of container (what could be better? Reuse a container you already have... washable... fits easily in a corner) keep in mind the WRAPPING paper size, also. It has been great for me, a mom of 2 big kitties.

I'M GOING TO USE YOUR IDEA ASAP FOR MY BIG MODEST BOYS!! I am so excited to share your idea with my husband!! THANK YOU! I LOVE THIS SITE! ... View related article.

RE: Saving Money at Restaurants
I love the advise I've read about saving money when dining out. I do have to say, that when my family of 4 goes out for dinner, we only order appetizers IF they are for the whole family. If it doesn't fit ONE family members taste, then we don't order it. I feel that it isn't needed if it isn't for the whole family. Why buy an appetizer if it isn't enjoyed by the entire family? Doesn't seem cost effective to me. Especially since dining out is Family Time!! We have time to talk, share our ideas, have fun. When you dont have to worry about dishes or clean up, its amazing how much more time you have to enjoy your family!

BE CAREFUL of 'extras'. Recently I ordered 'extra' hollandaise sauce on Eggs Benedict at Ihop. On our bill we were charged 2.99 for a small bowl of 'extra' hollandaise. I actually meant, "please cover the the eggs entirely", as sometimes they deliver almost naked eggs... but instead I got a small side order/bowl of hollandaise. And, boy did the bill reflect it.

Also be careful when the server asks you if you would like 'your potato(s) loaded', 'cheese on that', 'mushrooms and onions', 'butter & sour cream', salad, soup..... often times it SOUNDS like items are included in your meal. But SURPRISE, they are not. The small things add up FAST.

Military discounts are also a great savings for those families serving in the Military. Many restaurants offer this discount and if they don't, will often apply the senior discount as a Military discount!

My final bit of personal advise is this; when tipping, TIP THE SERVER ON THE AMOUNT THE MEAL WOULD COST BEFORE COUPONS, DISCOUNTS ETC. The server deserves a tip according to what was actually served. Good for us that we find discounts, but the server shouldn't 'suffer' for our savings.

ENJOY! ... View related article.

RE: Disengaging Hand Wheel On Brother Sewing Machine
Were you able to disengage it? On the hand wheel, is there a 'center' wheel in the middle of the hand wheel? That you can turn counter clock wise (while holding main part of wheel in place). If you have a picture of it, or can explain it a little more, I think I could help you! GOOD LUCK!! ... View related article.

RE: Do chickens eat raspberries?
Oh my, yes they sure eat rasberries! I lost all my berries that were within reach, every year. (MY reach that is! I don't know how they got them, and what they left me were great big wonderful raspberries, that i could only reach if I hedged my way to them!)

My husband swears that it made them produce better eggs though! ... View related article.

RE: Flarp Stains on Clothing
Wow, that can be a mess. My friend had flarp (or something exactly like it... maybe generic brand) stuck to the back seat carpet in her vehicle. Then, it dried... it was like a 'almost' hard, waxy, smashed into the floor, mess. It wasnt solid, but wasn't removable by hand either.

We used 'Spot Shot', and it got it right up.... i was totally amazed!!

Good luck!!

RE: Scrapbook for Student Assignment
Hello, I hope I am not too late to offer a suggestion! Here's my two cents!! I love to use the Comic's from the Sunday (or any day!) paper. Your son can choose what he 'identifies' with, or just plain likes! If your newspaper still prints the 'funnies' in black and white on week days, they are cute as well. Gives a theme, with variation.
Good luck! I love to use the 'Funny Pages'. Try it. It'll turn out much better than it sounds at first glance!

Good luck, and we'd love for you to upload a pic when you are done. We'd love to see the finished product!

RE: Making Embossing Powder
**UPDATE** I am not looking for the information to save money or time. This is a project that my daughter and I have taken on. Part Science experiment, the other part... FUN.

It seems to be a simple compound. My brother is a Chemical Engineer, and he says this should be pretty easy to make.

Sometimes it's easiest to post suggestions for people to do something the 'easier, softer way'... but I believe the reason we all post our questions here, is that we have already thought of the obvious solutions... and want help thinking 'outside of the box'. :)

Thank you all, and I hope to be able to lend a helpful hint soon!

RE: Removing Yellow Stains from Antique Crocheted Tablecloth
Hello! I had the very same issue. A beautiful hand made (at least I think it must have been?) from my great grandmother. It too, had yellow stains on it, and a red candle wax stain as well.

I soaked my cherished table cover in a big 'tub' (the kind you might store children's toys in) and added a generous amount of OxyClean. (Not too much, but I wasn't stingy either). I left it there for 2 days, checking on it and 'stirring' it around. I was amazed after the first few hours at how beautiful white it was. The yellow was GONE.

I left my table cover in the solution for a couple of days, trying to get the candle wax stain out. The red wax stain did not come completely out, but it is much less noticeable now!

Good luck with your precious item.
