| RE: Shipping a Pie |
Check with UPS or Fedex. iI commercial-for-profit people can ship food, a sister should be able to send her ill sister a pie. I'll bet they can use dry ice to keep it cold/frozen.
ps. What kind of pie is she getting? There's nothing better than love from your sister. I know mine would agree. ... View related article. |

Add some to melted pour-and-melt soap and then mold the soap. add a little cinnamon, too. the coffee will exfoliate when you use it and also will mask funky odors on your hands (like onion/fish). I added about 2 tablespoons coffee and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon to about 4 ounces of melted soap then molded it. I'm thinking about doing more for Christmas. ... View related article. |

| RE: Stop Using Fabric Softener to Stop Musty Towels |
|
Joe is right. I quit using fabric softener all together earlier this year and wish i had done it sooner. i fill the automatic softener dispenser with white vinegar at every wash now and have noticed a serious reduction in lint, static, and, especially, that funky smell that laundered items sometimes take on if we don't wear them "right away". not to mention that it is so much more economical than FS. i don't know who first came up with white vinegar but i think that's the guy who should be winning the nobel prize! i also add about 1/8 cup of baking soda to the detergent dispenser. it helps the soap work better and is also a natural deodorizer. ... try a 50/50 solution of cream of tartar and white vinegar. i read it somewhere on the net and have been using it like crazy on my pans with old crud on them. they look fabulous. mix it in a custard cup and spread on (use your fingers). let sit for a little bit then scrub with your scrubber of choice. neat trick! ... dh8, this was a wonderful post. your points should be considered by all of us who spend precious time, thought and energy with our talents when we gift. i got a lot of useful insight from your words.
chretienne, thank you for responding to the original article. yours is, in my view, the only reply that actually "gets" the original message.
now, i need to get back to my christmas list and revise a few of my original entries after taking the time to reflect on some of my recipients. ... View related article. |

| RE: Coffee Container Bird Feeder and Clothes Pin Holder |
how about putting velcro on the top of the lid and on the bottom of the canister. no holes to poke. lid is either on the top or on the bottom. i like that it keeps your clothespins dry and bug free. that's a major bummer for me.
is the bird feeder fixed to the tree or does it hang, too? what about the squirrels that i don't want to feed?
speaking of cool squirrel resistant (not necessarily proof) bird feeders, i saw a neat one. they took a laced shoe and hung it from a tree with a single cord from the "bow end" of the laces. birds can feed but squirrels will cling to the toe end and the seed will run into the toe and they can't get to it. this one was painted to look like a deranged bumblebee!

| RE: Craft Project: Patch Potholders |
those are beautiful! thanks for putting up this great tutorial.
a couple of years ago a friend made new curtains for her kitchen and gave me the leftover fabric (blue gingham print and white on white print). it sat in my stash till this year. i made two hotpads for her from this pattern for her birthday. i reversed the order of the fabrics so one is blue with white and the other white with blue. actually, i finished hand sewing the binding while we traveled to her mother's calling hours and funeral (it was hard with all the tears i had to keep wiping away). she loved them and, of course, said she won't use them because they are "too nice". i had to remind her that they can be washed!!
for christmas i'm using the balance of the fabric to cover a composition notebook for a cookbook and to make matching cloth napkins.

consider the elephant ear irrigation bottle. the doc i used to work for used it in her office. you (or someone helping you) control the velocity of the water. also, if your doc gets $400 for this procedure some one is getting robbed. we were lucky to collect $65 for it. ... View related article. |
