| RE: Overwintering Geraniums |
The place where my daughter worked had some in a pot. Near spring they were almost dead from poor moisture in the air. However they survived a light frost when left out side. I trimmed it down and put some of the clippings in good quality potting soil. They started rooting and making new plants.
High humidity is a key part of them not drying up.

| RE: Worms Killing My Zucchini |
In your situation I would try garlic powder. It is not poison to eat. So it won't poison the plant for eating. Most insects don't like garlic. If you use garlic salt, some of the salt may eat some of the leaves.
Some people plant garlic in between their garden plants just to control pests.
We have slugs this year. One lady I know puts beer in a lid of a jar, and the slugs go to it and drown. ... View related article. |

| RE: What is this Plant? |
It looks like a breed of manarda called Bee Balm. I have red and have been looking for pink all summer long. I finally paid almost seven dollars for a dwarf pink.
If it is bee balm it should have a minty smell. It is a member of the mint family. I use the leaves in with tea and we eat the petals. Some put the petals in salads.
Bee balm is a spice and a diuretic. I would love to trade some Red for Pink. ... View related article. |

| RE: Transplanting Rosa Rugosa |
I bought one a while back. I thought it died over the winter. But to my suprise it came back from the root. A whole new bush came from the root. I have also cloned from cuttings assorted rose bushes over the last couple years. I take a cutting, put it in a good light wait potting mix in a well drained pot. Avoid clay pots!
Remove most of the leaves. If all the leaves fall off don't wory about it. They clone any way. Water well then put the pot in a dish with some water remaining in the bottom of the dish. Change the water about every three days. Water the pot from the top letting most of the water drain out. Let what drips in the bowl stay, leaving the water in the bottom of the dish with the pot inside.
In about 5 to 6 weeks you should have a rooted plant. As you probably know little by little your clone will need less water as the roots develop. Once your start is rooted it will take less water. Roses don't like there roots wet all the time. But you have to start out with water, water, water.
When transplanting in the ground do it while you are having a spell of rainy over cast days. Otherwise you will need to shade your plant after transplant and let it adjust to the sun every day little by little. Good luck with your Rugosa!

| RE: Using Lemon Juice on Moss |
I am not sure what will kill moss. But I can tell you that if you cant beat it, sell it on eBay.
I have gotten seed and plant order magazines, and people actually pay money for that stuff.
If you have to pull it up by hand, you may as well get paid for it. I should take my own advice. I have some really nice looking moss growing down back.
I have found that it pulls up in really nice round circles, in between the winter thaws. I actually sent a nice circle out in an on line plant trade. That person wanted more...

| Mimosa Tree seeds |
Hello: I don't know what kind of bugs you got in your seeds. But you should consider a seed trade.
THRIFTY FUN has a seed trade.
If you have some seeds of something I don't have I can send you some mimosa seeds for trade. I don't know what color the flowers will be. I still have to plant some of the seeds also.
I don't think the tree will survive our growing zone but wanted to bring the tree in during winter to see what happens. I am in zone 5 a.
But I need to do the reasearch on this plant. Possibly it does survive our zone? Not sure?
I got mine in a recent seed trade.
I am on the thrifty fun seed trade that has the blue flowering wandering jew that is available in the summer.

| RE: Garage Sale Finds |
I went to a yard sale and purchased from the bag sale. One dollar a bag for clothes. I could hardly believe that I got something for many of the kids at that sale. One of the skirts was almost an exact match for the one that one of the girls wanted at JC Penny. And it was here size. And the Disney denim jacket with tinker bell for one of the older kids was also in the deal.
The same day, I hit up another yard sale. Walla! Another Disney jacket almost the same as the first. A 25 cent find. Needless to say, I had something for every grand kid by the end of the day, and to them it was like Christmas came early, and they all had a big smile.
I went to my daughters a few days ago, and one of the girls said "Grandma". I said what? So posed so nicely and proud and said "Thank you so much for buying us school clothes". I pretended not to notice it was really Saturday, and she was grinning from ear to ear displaying my yard sale find. She is a five year old fashion diva, and doesn't mind if it is a yard sale find! ... View related article. |
