| RE: Crickets Inside House |
|
I purchased a gallon of 9 month insect repellent spray from the hardware store and sprayed my foundation and all around the basement windows with this stuff. No more spiders or crickets except for the occasional one here & there. I live in a fairly dry climate so spraying twice a year is good for me but give it a try. For the crickets already in your house, there is a granular bait you can use for them to feed on to kill them. ... View related article. |

| RE: Place Mouse Trap in Paper Bag |
I have traps placed in all of our barns & outbuildings since we have problems keeping cats due to predators. I use a piece of cat food smeared with peanut butter on one side. Wedge the piece of cat food under the clamp of a spring style mouse trap with the peanut butter facing down. It is almost impossible for the mouse to remove the food without springing the trap.
Mice also usually will run along walls so traps should be placed at a right angle with walls for the best catch. I also do not like to pick up the traps so I use a bag to pick up the trap and fold over the edge of the bag to release the spring so the mouse drops in the bag without having to touch it. Because I have a "trap line", I need to reuse my traps til they wear out and need to be replaced. ... View related article. |

| RE: Using Stevia in Tea |

After I dried my leaves I put them in a dry blade blender (I have a Vitamix that I also grind wheat with). This reduced the leaves to a powder mixture that is very sweet so just a bit is needed. ... View related article. |

| RE: Remedies for Dry Skin |
|
My daughter had a severe dry skin problem and her doctor told her to use nothing but dove soap and lukewarm water to shower in. Immediately after drying off and skin is still damp, apply lotion (we used Jergens) to lock in the moisture. Within two weeks her skin was normal and the only time it started to get bad again was on trips when she used regular soap so she started packing her own soap to take along. ... | RE: Wedding Cocktail Reception on a Tight Budget |
I helped a friend do a reception and no one ever knew it was not catered. A group of us got together and planned the food and when we would prepare it. We prepared everything in the church kitchen so we had plenty of room to work. We made beautiful veggie baskets(, salads, cooked up hams and roast beef & made finger salad sandwiches (make the filling several days in advance so you just have to spread it on the night before & order pullman loaves from the bakery as they make a better looking finger sandwich). We also made an assortment of fancy cookies and petite cakes (You may be able to freeze some of this stuff after it is prepared). We had an absolute blast preparing everything and it goes really fast when you have help. As for napkins and plates, some dollar stores carry colored plates & napkins and you could use a rainbow of colors. Best wishes & good luck. PS watch for sales on things you can buy in advance. You have allowed plenty of time for planning. ... View related article. |

| RE: Water Not Getting to Fridge Ice Maker |
|
If you are getting drinking water then it is not the filter. Pull out your fridge and towards the top where the icemaker is there will be a tube going into the back of you freezer part of fridge. Pull that tube out (you may need to undo a screw) and there will be a hard plastic or metal tube that water goes through and pours into the ice cube tray. Sonetimes this will freeze up solid with ice and no water can get through. Melt using a blow dryer and and then reinsert and you should be good to go. I paid for this advice from the appliance repair man but now at least I know what to do when it happens every so often. ... View related article. |

| RE: Hornet Homecoming Float Ideas |
|
Way back when I was in high school we covered a volkswagon with chicken wire and turned it into a giant moving mouse using napkins pulled through the wire and spray painted. The headlights were covered with amber plastic (same stuff used in lighting stages) and we left a small hole in the front to see through to drive. We won !st place because it was so unique. You could probably come up with a slogan and create a hornet on some kind of smaller car. If you use this idea, be sure to use painters tape on the areas of the car where the chicken wire will touch so it doesn't scratch the car paint. Good luck! ... View related article. |

| RE: Making Your Own Butter and Canola Oil Spread |
|
I put 1 pound of butter and 1 3/4 cups of canola oil in my kitchen aid mixer. Starting slowly so it doesn't slop over the edge, start mixing and then turn on high and let it mix for about 5 minutes. You will get a nice light and creamy spread that will harden some after you put it in the fridge. ... View related article. |

| RE: Planting Flowers in a Vegetable Garden |

Sunflowers are great but they do use a lot of water. I allow calendullas (pot marigolds) & bachelor buttons to reseed themselves in my garden every year. If they are deadheaded, you will have flowers all summer long. ... View related article. |

| RE: Using Milk Jugs in the Garden |
|
Use them as mini plant protectors in areas where frost is likely in the spring; cut the bottom out of the milk jug and cut open the top & bottom part of the handle. Place the jug over the plant and secure the jug from blowing away by inserting a long stick or dowel through the handle and into the ground. Keep the lid off on warm days and cap it for cold nights. This allows you to get the plants in the ground earlier and the extra heat really helps them get more established. ... View related article. |
