I like remaining active here at ThriftyFun, but lately I've been busy getting a new forum up and running...as I'm a big fan of this site, I've incorperated a bit of here, into there...though only a bit, as on the whole, the two are rather unrelated.
I can't find the actual history of the name, though, I'd assume they are Otter Pops based on the fact they have cute little otters on them ;) *shrug*"" ... View related article.
A few years back, I dressed up all in black (nothing fancy) and put on a black cap (like a dock worker would wear). I then wrapped half my body in a bag of $1 fake spider webbing.
While I had to tell most people that I was "the victim of spiderman" once they got it they all thought it was great.
So if ya don't mind explaining yourself, it's a costume that only costs a buck ... View related article.
To help thwart the blowing of your Rounup you can use cardboard. Hold the cardboard between what you are spraying and whatever is behind it. You'll minimize the effects of the Roundup on the other plants.
And as Chris (we got the same name ;)) said above just kill off the grass and re-seed later...it'll be a headache, but it'll save you a bigger one trying to not spray it. Read the instructions on your roundup before using and it'll tell you when you can replant.

If you are daring, and got the time...
* Use roundup, wait a week (to allow the ivy to die off) * Till the area to break up the roots *Wait till the ivy comes back * repeat
This will take several applications, but I've found as the ivy is, well, an ivy, getting to ALL of the roots is nearly impossible. By breaking the soil you are causing the roots to seperate & re-grow. Then by spraying again, you'll find you're getting more of the ivy then just by spraying the leaves.

I'm not allergic to the poison plants so I just dig in with my hands *evil grin* but the better majority of the population is not like me...so you'll have to find someone like me, or do it all the hard way.
_________
IMPORTANT NOTES: * Wear Gloves & wash them throughly as SOON as you are done working * DO NOT BURN the poison ivy (not even the dead stuff). You'll get the oils in your mouth & lungs and trust me, that AIN'T PURDY! * If you use an off-brand of roundup, be sure it's active ingredients match (including the amount of them). * I personally double the mix when killing ivies, it tends to work better (though, that sticky stuff Chris said should likely do the trick) ... My grandmother has everything, and then some...so I get her a nice card, a hand written letter, and a gift certificate to her favorite place to eat.
She loves getting cards, as well as giving them, so that's the easy part, but it's certainly not enough by my way of thinking. She does not care all that much for getting gift certificates, but I feel better by spending money (YAY for capitalism!). It all get's tied together with the letter where I do a run down of all that happened throughout the past year, as well as telling her how wonderful of a person she is.
Before you take any other suggestions, you may wish to wander around her house...she may already have four or five calendars (mine does) and her windows and shelves are all already full...
On another note, hand made anythings are also great. My grandmother would gladly remove some store bought thing to replace it with something you made yourself. Q... View related article.
I had a fireplace in my old house that was hooked up to Gas. With the cost of gas these days we turned off all the piping, burned all the gas out of the existing pipes, removed them all and put a TV in it's place.
We ran the wiring of the TV through the base of it into the basement (including VCR cables) and on holidays we'd watch a Video of fire burning (I found the video YEARS ago in the discount bin at a Walden Books).
It looked a bit cheesey, but hey...at least I was using it for something...
look closely to see if the black stops are pitting (little holes in the silver plate). If that is the case there is likely no chance of "polishing" them away.
Many larger cities in the US and seemingly the UK have "wheels to work" or "wheels for work" programs allowing eligible families to get a free car. It may be worth looking into.
Many cities in the US also offer discount rates on Public Transpertaion for Veterans, Students, and Seniors. As well as group rates, weekly, monthly, and multi-trip rates.
Another point of interest is many cities offer free cab fare for drunks, or at least discounted rates. If it's bar time and you need a ride ask the barkeep.
Call whatever department runs transportation in your city for more details on discounts and special offers. Q... View related article.
Saving the reciept is an important step, but it's also important to read and understand the stores return policy.
Some times it's on an item by item basis, so when you are at the counter, not only ask what the policy is, look around for the sign that explains it!
Other then that though, I've done this...heh, once I was not positive what size of something I needed so I bought one of each :D and later returned the three that ended up being the wrong size. Q... View related article.
