| RE: Planning a Moving Sale in the Fall/Winter |

I think with a little advertising this could work out really well for you as yard sales and the like decline. Make sure to post free internet bulletin boards. Are you near a military community? Find out where they post yard sales and list your event. We are always coming and going and looking for a bargain. Good luck! ... View related article. |

| RE: Active Sweet 16 Party Ideas |
What about a scavenger hunt? or a craft to make something out of a t-shirt? For our son at that same age. We rented a cabin at a beach and rented kayaks for his guests to go out on. Afterward we barbecued. Not frugal, but lots of fun. Good luck, it's a hard age for party planning. ... View related article. |

I love this idea. Sometimes the motivation to do instead of get is lacking, we have to remind ourselves that we can give to ourselves. ... View related article. |

| RE: Clothing Exchange Parties |

Our military community here in Okinawa Japan has a "kids' clothing swap". After two swaps it starts fresh, donating the left overs to local charity thrift shops. They are a good way to recycle, and a nice way to update the closets of our kids. They are co-ordinated and planned in advance by a few dedicated volunteers. A participant simply checks her items in and uses her credits toward "new to her" items. Items that are slightly stained or discolored go into a free bin that participants can check once they check out. ... View related article. |

Actually, the regular pretzels also have a religious tie in, I got this from a company website:
The unconfirmed rumor is that an Italian monk created the first pretzel from leftover bread dough. He rolled it out, formed it into the shape of a child's arms folded in prayer, and called it a "pretoria," Latin for "reward." The pretoria later made its way to Austria and Germany where it became known as the "bretzel" or "pretzel."
I believe that in the story I heard as a child, these were given to children in Church orphanages.

| RE: Paper Or Plastic Bags? |
The reusable bags are easy to put in your purse, or carry over your shoulder when you exit your car. It's a habit one has to form, I have forgotten before. Also, I do not take a bag for anything very small or easy to carry. I live overseas in a military community and people have adapted very quickly. Stores charge for plastic bags here as well (very little) and locals appreciate it when Americans understand this policy and provide their own bags. I am able to make my own bags, but find that so many places give away a cloth bag that I could use for groceries. So I have a hodgepodge of purchased and "give away" type bags, that serve me well and have been used dozens if not hundreds of times in the past few years.
All that I still get plastic bags at some places, lots of store pack meat or veggies in a special sack which I don't need since I will be laundering my bags. But I reuse these bags as well. ... View related article. |

| RE: Emergency Sewing Kit |

A home made/custom item is always more fun than a store bought one. This a particularly good idea for children just learning to sew and those of us that like to be always at the ready. (I packed a sewing kit with my husband, he laughed at the time, then later told me he really needed it, especially the buttons that match his uniform) For crafters and sewers, this is a good way to deal with end of the spool thread, or longish pieces left on your needle left over at the end of a project. ...
