RE: Make Your Own Instant Oatmeal
The Quick Oats can be prepared in the microwave exactly as they come out of the box. There is no need to process them more. Time is same as for "instant". I emailed Quaker about this over a year ago and this was info they gave me.

RE: Products Being Thrown in the Garbage
I am going in circles with a few HUGE companies about this same thing. I get sick seeing all of the waste. Walmart and such places toss literaly 1,000s of lbs of usable products every week. I contacted congress woman Sue Myricks office and was assured that it is totally legal to GIVE away out of date food and such. It falls under the "Good Samaritan Act". AS lng as the person or company gives food in good faith ,the they are proected. How many of us have at least one out of date item on our shelves. LOL..I have quiet a few myself. I wish knew how to circulate an email petition to someone. Maybe they would set up a take notice. To many ppl are doing without and would love to have their wasted items. Take care ! & Tanks for caring! JAN ... View related article.

RE: Teach Your Children To NOT Open The Door
This such important info.My brother used to work for a utility company and often had to go into home ,because the meters were only accessible this way. He told many horror stories of small pre-school age kids opening the door and inviting him in. Once he saw a female (mom) asleep on the couch scantily clad.I babysit my grands and I put a slide lock up high so they can not open the door. When somone rings the bell I make them ask "who is it" before I open the door. Youcan never be to safe. Thanks for caring and sharing. JAN in NC ... View related article.

RE: Painting Baby Furniture
First make sure the paint is lead free. The paints I have used all stated that they were safe for infants and toddlers. I would reccomend reading the label, if in doubt ask someone where the paint was purchased. Take Care ! JAN ... View related article.

RE: Using Boric Acid or Borax for Pest Control and Cleaning
I live in NC also west of Charlotte.
I help a friend do a food ministry. I had no roaches until he began bringing in the boxes of food from area grocery stores. Then suddenly I had an infestation. I use mostly boric acid. $2.00 at Dollar General or Freds. I also use Bengal in those places I can't get the powder. It is working great for me.
I put it on a few peices of dogfood in a jar lid and stick in the back of the cabinet ,you would not believe the difference it has made.
As far a pets and kids,,well I follow the old rule of " theres no need to put roach poisin within reach of kids or pets, because they spend most of their time hiding anyway" I put it behind stuff or far back in the back of cabinets, etc.
Also look for their fav place in your home. This may sound YUCK ,but today I moved the wooden knife block and there were hundreds . I took it to the shower and turned water HOT. I can't tell you how many I washed down the drain. Needless to say ....that thing is outta here....sorry to be so long .take care and have a great day. Jan in NC ... View related article.

RE: Keeping Track of a Toddler at Disney World
while on vacation at Myrtle Beach ,Sc we always use a leash. There are leashes made for toddlers and small children ,I think Walmart or Kmart carries the kind we have. Be perpared to get alot of looks both of approval and disaproval. The main thing is keeping your child safe ,while allowing him/her to enjoy themself..JAN in NC ... View related article.

RE: Southern Sweet Tea Recipe
Ok , I can't add much here.I will say I love the drip coffee maker method.I have used it for years.3 store brand family size tea bags in coffee basket, fill maker with the pot of water let run thru.I put 1 1/2 - 2 cups sugar in a gallon container (empty mayo jug) . When tea is brewed I put it in jug then fill the rest of the way with water. The reason for variation in sugar is because I use different amounts depending on who is going to be here drinking it with me.
I live in NC and consume one gallon of decaf tea almost every day and have for over 30 years. JAN ... View related article.

Pam,
I have thrown my poinsetta awy year after year until this year. I love the green leaves that started coming out as the red began falling off. Could you please tell me how I should care for it properly. Also any advice on a Ficus would be appreciated . I recieved it when my hubby passed away in Sept.2005 and the plant itself looks fine ,but it just will not get more leaves .It looks very scraggely. Thanks and you could email me off the forum if you like with the info. Thanks alot ,JAN ... View related article.
