Just in case it's the carpet (and it only costs pennies), sprinkle baking soda all over the carpet. Let that sit for at least 20 minutes or overnight. Then you must Vacuum the carpet. Try boiling white vinegar and water on the stove and let the steam disperse. Don't stand too close to steam. Kills germs as well as smell. ... View related article.

Boil about three cups of white vinegar (may add some water) on stove and let steam disperse into the air. Don't stand too close. Wipe down everything (cabinets, stove, countertops, floor) with white vinegar. If you feel it's in the carpet, sprinkle baking soda on carpet, let sit at least 20 minutes or overnight, then vacuum.
