| RE: Growing Potted Plants on Balcony in Cairo |
It may also depend on the pots themselves getting too hot and boiling the roots. Try putting the pots in larger pots to shade them a bit. Water deeply in the morning and check them when you get home to see if they are still a bit damp or not. Ask where you are buying your plants what kind will do best for your location. Marigolds are native to Africa, so maybe try some of those. Or try different succulents (cacti, burrows tail, hens & chicks, agave)? They are tolerant to drought/desert conditions. Good luck! Sounds really challenging! ... View related article. |

| RE: Over Watering Tomatoes? |
|
Save your money honey, and use egg shells! Also, blossom end rot is from not watering consistently. Overwatering results in the fruit splitting, tomatoes are heavy feeders and need water daily. Don't let the soil dry out completely. Ever since I put my tomatoes on a drip irrigation with a timer, I have not had problems with blossom end rot. The tomatoes are still good, just cut the bad end off. ... View related article. |

| RE: Pound Cake Came Out Dry |
To save it rather then chucking it. Make trifle with it or serve it with berries and whipped cream (like strawberry shortcake). Turn your dry cake into a delicious dessert! Depending on how dry and dense the pound cake is, you could dip slices in egg/milk and pan fry and serve with powdered sugar (like French toast only cakier)
It could also be your elevation; higher elevations usually need longer cooking times while lower elevations shorter. You may want to see what the elevation is/was where the recipe originated from. If you don't know, set the timer 5 minutes earlier than suggested and prick with a toothpick or a small bamboo skewer in the centre/highest point(s). If it comes out with batter on it, it needs to cook longer. If it comes out clean, maybe a couple of crumbs, take it out of the oven, it is pretty much done! ... View related article. |

| RE: Getting Rid of Lilac Suckers |
|
Suckers come thru the weed barrier, they are very persistant. In some pruning books they suggest trimming suckers to ground level, removing the dead flowers and eliminating 1/3 of the oldest (read: biggest) branches per year. This will promote more new growth which produces the flowers and keep the shrub from only flowering at the very top. Hope this helps! ... View related article. |

| RE: Getting Rid of Whiteheads |
Could be a virus called Molluscum as well. If they are really hard, she may have to open the skin with a disinfected needle to remove them. My son had a molluscum infection that he got from a friend and it stuck around until he got a cold, at which point his immune system got rid of it. I actually got some on my eyelids that my opthamologist scraped off for me. Very irritating. Another treatment for molluscum is to freeze them off, but this is best done by a doctor. Get a correct diagnosis before proceeding.
Whiteheads can be from a diet lacking in citrus/vitamin C or poor skin care. Have your daughter use a mild cleanser (non drying) twice a day, and a clay based mask one to two times a week to exfoliate the skin. Be sure to use a balancing moisturizer for her skin type. Treating irritated spots with Tea Tree oil can help dry them out too. Or sleep with a spot of the clay mask on the spot if they are more isolated. ... View related article. |

| RE: Aromatherapy for Dogs |
|
I have mixed Young Living's Purification blend with vegetable oil and put it on my pups to keep the mosquitoes off (and they smell lemon fresh too!) Also, if your pet is arthritic or has an injury, diluted PanAway works great on their paws too. In most cases, if it is beneficial to a human, it must be diluted and it can be beneficial for the pet as well. Just be careful as some can be toxic (besides chocolate, did you know grapes are dangerous for dogs?) Lavender is good for skin irritations. Sometimes when I put an oil blend on, my pug will rub himself all over me, like dog-nip? I'm not sure what it is but he loves it! ... View related article. |

| RE: Killing Mosquito Larvae in Rain Barrel |
To keep them from going back in, make sure to cover with screening, the water can get in but momma mosquito can not. We change the water in our birdbath daily to prevent mosquito colonies.
Churning the water sounds like it would work because mosquitos only lay their larvae in standing water. You could skim them off too and squish them (gross but gets the job done). ... View related article. |
