| RE: My Frugal Life: Cut Any Corner You Can |
|
Hi, Myrtle May. I enjoyed your Frugal Life story very much. I live in a small town in Texas, about 15 miles from a major town. Riding a bike on a state highway would be taking my life into my own hands, though I would like to live car-free if I could. I am fairly frugal and love reading about others and how they save. I don't know what to tell you about your lips, but, every night, roll a pair of cotton socks down to the toe like you would knee-hi's. Slather your hands with Vaseline or baby cream or even Crisco. Then, roll the socks down onto your hands, being careful not to wipe the Vaseline. Wear them all night and you'll be surprised to see how healed they are. Aunt Sharon from Texas ... Can you get to the coils to dust them? You may have a buildup of dust on them. Check inside. Do you have an ice buildup anywhere? Are your seals flexible and tight? Is there any thing stuck on the seals or on the places the seals touch? Can you get to the fan? It may be dusty, too. Check your plug and make sure it is making good contact with the receptacle. When your seals are nice and clean, put a thin coating of petroleum jelly on them to help seal better. | RE: Solution for Stinky Rawhide |
Since you're not using it and probably won't since it smells so bad, you're not out anything if you try different things. Try soaking it in water with a little mild soap, then dry it thoroughly. Make sure you soak it well, but try not to stretch the wet leather. Then, you can rub it with saddle soap and wipe it down again. Maybe you could rub it down with mineral spirits and wipe it well with an old T-shirt to get the fish oil out, then when the mineral spirits dry, rub it with neats-foot oil. You might try pressing the rough side after you put the mineral spirits on as that is more porous than the outside. Please let me know if this works through ThriftyFun. Aunt Sharon from Texas ...
