Profile For ThriftyUser - I Like Thrifty

I am a divorced mother of one son. He is now out of college and has been married for over 2 years. I was definetly feeling the empty nest. Then my 23 year old great nephew moved in with me. It is great to have someone to cook for again.

RE: Can You Dry Clean and Wash Clothes?
Yes you can. I used to work at a dry cleaner. They cleaned all of my clothes for free. Since my washer had gone out I took all but underwear in to be dry cleaned for free. I took underwear to the laundramat to wash. After I got my new washer I took up washing everything myself again. ... View related article.

RE: Free Cookbook Creator Program
We put out a cookbook at my church. I just typed up all the recipes in a way that looked pleasing to me. I chose to do this with Word. I made the margins as small as I could. I think they were about .5" or maybe .6". The paper was in landscape mode. This was achieved in page set up. Then I make 2 columns with 1.2" space between columns. This created 2 pages. Then I just typed in all the recipes. I tried to type recipes all on one page whenever possible. If not then I would fill in with a short recipe. I put all recipes in categories before I started. But you could create a separate file for each category instead. I did not. I numbered all the pages as I typed. To have them go together in book for better, start with page one in the second column. Column 1 can be used for a cover page. At the end of each category I included several pages labeled at the top with "Additional Recipes.
When they were printed I printed out just one copy of each page. Then we used a copier for more copies. Copy the SAME page on the front and back of a sheet. Then cut paper in half with a good paper cutter. You will have page one and two on each of two papers. You need to do that with all pages of the book. We bound ours with the plastic comb binders. But some we punched holes in and fit into a small 3 ring binder. After all is printed out, I created page separaters on card stock. These were in color and labeled again in 2 columns with the name of the category on each side. Then you can go through and create an index. It took a lot of work but we got a lot of compliments.
Good luck with yours ... View related article.

RE: Easy Flan Recipe
Hope this is ok

Flan

1/2 cup white sugar
2 egg yolks, beaten
2 cups milk*
3/8 cup white sugar
2 eggs, beaten
1 tsp vanilla

Preheat oven to 350°.
In heavy bottomed saucepan over medium heat, melt 1/2 cup sugar until golden. Carefully pour hot sugar evenly in 4 oven-proof ramekins or custard cups, tilting cups to coat bottoms evenly.

In another saucepan, bring milk just to boiling over medium heat. Stir hot milk, a little at a time, into beaten eggs & egg yolks, until well combined. Stir in sugar & vanilla. Pour milk mixture evenly into ramekins.

Line roasting pan with damp kitchen towel. Place ramekins on towel, inside roasting pan, & place roasting pan on oven rack. Fill roasting pan with boiling water to reach halfway up sides of ramekins. Bake 40 minutes, until set. Let cool, invert & serve.

*For richer flan, add 1/2 cup heavy cream or sub 1 cup half n half for 1 cup milk.

RE: Aebleskiver Pan Keeps Sticking
Thank you for all the feedback. I really appreciate all your comments. I had no idea you needed to use so much oil/shortening in each well. I've gone onto the recommended web sites and have received a lot of information as well as some wonderful sounding recipes. I'm going to try making them again hopefully this weekend. Right after I re-season my pan following the directions on web site. I'm of German descent but had a landlady who was Norwegian. She made a lot of things like these. They were wonderful. Unfortunately, I never watched her make any. She has passed away since then.
Thank you again. I'll let you know how they work out this time. ... View related article.
