RE: Crusty Bumps on Horse's Face
If you are still thinking insect bites I would try using some of the wipe on repellent to keep them off the face area. That is what I use on my horses and it seems to do the trick. I don't like to have any blemishes on my show horses if I can avoid it. I also spray their stalls with citronella to keep the flys down. :) ... View related article.

RE: Crusty Bumps on Horse's Face
I think you've done exactly what I would do at this point. Now I would just leave them and hopefully they will just dry out and go away. I have only seem melamonas under the tail on a grey, never on their head, not to say they don't get them, just that I have never seen them. Since they are weeping I would think it more likely that they are insect irritations. I can see your pic!

RE: How do you get dried blood stains off clothes?
I have always used 3% hydrogen peroxide that you get in the drug store. I pour it right on the blood stain let it foam up and sit for a bit and then launder as usual. If there is still blood present when I take the item from the washer I do it again before I dry the item. It will even remove old blood stains, works everytime!! ... View related article.

RE: Applying Acrylic Nails
Hey Dawn, the first thing I would do it get a wider brush than the one you were taught with that seems to make it easier. Then take your time and make sure you've got your acrylic nice and smooth on each nail before moving on to the next. Take a little extra dip back into your liquid with your brush, wipe off the excess and go over the nail one more time to get that extra smoothness. Better to spend more time on the acrylic application than on trying to remove imperfections afterwards!! If you are finding bumps and stuff when you go to buff then you aren't getting it on smooth enough to start with. Of course then go forward with your roughest buffing and on down to smooth until it looks like glass. Don't give up it just takes practice!!!

RE: Asking Family To Not Exchange Gifts
We do something we call "Chinese Christmas" I have no idea how it got that name but here's what we do. We have a very large extended family so this can get quite silly but fun. Each person brings a gift for a person of the same gender as themselves at a set price range, we usually say about 30.00 but you can go over if you choose. You wrap it but don't label it at all. We put all the gifts under the tree and then draw numbers. The person who drew the #1 goes first and picks a gift to open. After that #2 opens a gift and then can chose between the gift they opened and the gift #1 opened and trade gifts with person #1. Person #3 picks a new gift out of the pile opens it and then can keep it or trade with person 1 or 2 and so on. So if you end up with a hot item it can get traded around a lot. Sometimes you end up with something you like so you try to slide it under your chair and hope everyone forgets about it, LOL which never happens!! It is tons of fun, tugging over gifts, it gets loud!! After all the gifts are opened the person who was #1 gets to pick from all the gifts since they didn't have a choice of trade in the beginning so drawing the #1 is the best!! We have so much fun doing this, it doesn't cost you a bunch and is a great way to get everyone interacting. Afterwards you can still trade off or do what you like and sometimes that happens too! Works better than just boring old drawing names for our big family!!

RE: Dark Circles on My Elbows and Knees
adding sugar or baking soda to shower gel works great as does salt. Many of the "sugar scrubs" as they call them now actually are made with salt. Anything that contains the granules that give some abrasion as you scrub will do the job you certainly don't have to spend a ton of money!! ... View related article.

RE: Keep Kitty Litter Smelling Fresh
You might want to consider switching to the baking soda, the baby powder is made up of very fine particles and is not good for your cats to inhale, although I bet it does smell nice. ... View related article.

RE: Dark Circles on My Elbows and Knees
You likely need to use a good exfoliating scrub first before you put your cream on. It sounds like you have a build up of dead skin cells there and that is what is making the dark discoloration. Give that a good scrub first and then do the cream afterwards and that should take care of it!! ... View related article.

RE: Dog Pees in the House When I'm at Work
To put it simply nine hours is too long. I certainly wouldn't put my dog in a crate for nine hours, obviously you aren't if he is peeing on your rug. If you can find a neighbor that can let him out for you that would be the fix if not, I would find a solution like was mention of confining in the kitchen or putting down papers or pee pads because 9 hrs. is more than he can obviously do that this point. ... RE: Mayonnaise for Lice
I have posted here before about the mayo method, here's what I said... I am a hair salon owner and I would never ever use any of the chemical treatments on a child!! It isn't necessary and is not safe. Remove the actual bugs which is what the mayo treatment does by suffocation, the overnight bagged method does work. And then pick, pick, pick and get those nits out of there. Once laid, it takes 7-10 days for a nit to hatch. It is important to keep going back and checking the head until the cycle has been broken!

Head lice are a human parasite therefore will not survive off of their human hosts more than 24 hours. As I said previously nits off the head are doomed, So you don't need to go berzerk cleaning the house like a frenzied molly maid. A thorough vaccuuming of the entire house will do the trick. check out headlice.org
Hope that helps...Pam
I will add that just combing to get nits out doesn't get them all, it works better to pick them out with your fingernails. In answer to another question here mayo does not kill eggs it suffocates the lice only. Eggs(nits) left on the hair strand will hatch. Also as mentioned here putting the bedding in the dryer will do the trick. I would go back and be sure you have gotten all the nits out of their hair now and then go back again in a week, check again and do the mayo thing again. Good luck and good job on not using chemicals!!!
