RE: Rotating Stockpiled Goods
The easiest way to do this is by quickly taking a marker and dating the tops of cans, or packages with the day you bought them. I do this with frozen foods too. When buying bulk hamburger, I seperate it into smaller packages, label and date them. Dating encourages rotating.

RE: Making Mock Condensed Milk (like Eagle Brand)
"why in the name of god would anyone want to make this when eagle brand is perfect""""
"

Well, let's see. How about you don't have any on hand, and don't want to drive to the store right then. Or, maybe you'd just like to make a less expensive version, since a can is over $2 where I live.

P.S. I also use 3 T. melted butter in mine. ... View related article.

RE: Doggy Tug-O-War Movie - Buffy (Lab) and Waclaw (Pit Beagle)
We have a lab and a beagle-beagle. They run around in unison all day holding onto the same pull toy together. Neither will give it up. I can't imagine how stuborn a pit-beagle is. Little Ricky is a stuborn, sneaky little rat. The Lab, Duma, has the patience of a Saint. ... View related article.

RE: Homemade Laundry Soap Blunder
http://hillbillymaggie.proboards20.com/index.cgi has a very involved discussion on making homemade laundry soap, under the headings The 5 & 10 or Homemaking. Some used Fels Naptha, some used Zote soap as the "soap" part of the recipe. I love the whole idea of being frugal in every aspect of our lives.
Thanks to so many people for such good ideas.

RE: Real Vanilla - How can you buy it inexpensively?
Vanilla has doubled in price in the last year. I use a lot, and have had to pay $20 for a 16 oz. bottle of Tone's pure vanilla extract at Sam's Club. I know that's outrageous, but break that down to the little bottles of an ounce or two, and it's a deal. I hope someone can come up with a less expensive brand. ... View related article.

RE: Thrift Store Shopping Tips
Get your kids interested in Thrift shopping, and garage sales early in their lives. Our family considers it an adventure, and a lesson on stretching a dollar. We have found very cute clothes for my kids at a fraction of what they go for new. My ten year old daughter gets compliments on her outfits. Little does anyone know she may have gotten the pants for a dollar, and top for a quarter. ... View related article.

RE: Skunk Under Inground Pool
Call your local animal control. They may come out and help catch the skunk, or at least provide humane cages, and tell you how to bate them. Then they'll relocate the skunk. At least that's what happened to us when we had a skunk under our house! ... View related article.

RE: Mold on Window Frames
I would get in touch with your landlord and describe the mold problem exactly as you've done here. Mold can cause health problems, besides being unsightly. As a quick temporary remedy most common mold can be treated with a solution of bleach & water. 1 cup bleach to a gallon of water. Wipe everywhere on the frames that you see mold. Try to ventilate the house by opening the windows if that's practical this time of year. Again, I strongly urge you to discuss this problem with your landlord, since the chances are great that the mold will return, and possibly cause you real health problems. ... View related article.
