| RE: Preventing Mineral Built Up In a Toilet |
|
I learned this from a plumber. He uses an old fashioned wire clothes hanger. A larger one works better just for the reach. Grasp the hook end with one hand and the center of the long straight section with the other hand. Pull them apart to make a hook with a long handle. Straighten the hook end slightly and probe the rim holes with the hook. Flush the toilet as you are doing this helps wash out the holes at the same time. Also, use the same hook end and probe the one larger hole in the bottom of the bowl. This is the hole that the solid stream of water pushes the water down the toilet. The plumber said they clog from the lime, calcium, etc. in the water. He didn't have any preventative measure. It may just be that your water is high in these minerals. I would not recommend putting chemicals not designed for the porcelain. You can try the product SLR. I don't know how you would use it on a toilet though. I think the acromym stands for Salt, Lime, and Rust. I have seen the commercial on TV, but, haven't tried it. One last note!!! Be very careful not to chip or break the precelain. It can chip quite easily!!!!! ... View related article. |

| RE: Repairing a Bissell Little Green |
The fix is rather simple. The spray nozzle is clogged. I take mine apart this way. I remove the Y shaped head off the hose by pushing in the little button on the top. Pull the end Y shaped head straight off while holding in the button and hose. You can also take off the Y shaped cover by pressing the slightly larger tab and pulling the cover straight forward to clean it too. Run a forceful stream of warm to hot water in reverse of the spray direction. This will clean the nozzle. Avoid using a paper clip as this will deform the spray pattern. Before you reconnect the Y shaped head, plug the machine back in and turn it on while at the sink. Fill the resevoir for the cleaner with warm to hot clean water and operate the spray button, aiming the end of the hose into the sink, or on the ground if outside the house. This will clear the hose and related parts. This should have you running for some time before it clogs again. Mine does this regularly and I am constantly cleaning the nozzle. By doing this last step, you are making sure the pump is working and also cleans the hose, etc. Finally, make sure the little O-ring that is on the spray tube is smooth, round and not nicked or cut in any way. If it is replace it. Sears Hdwe stores or some automotive stores should have the O-ring. The O-ring is about 7/16" OD. Take it with you to the store and match it up. I have never had to change the one on my BLGMachine. Write back and let me know how you made out either way. I am glad to help. Steve, Jackson, NJ ... View related article. |

| RE: Recipes for Roti and Busip Shirt |

I had the wonderful opportunity to have my former neighbor who I call Mom, (she is like my real Mom, that is no longer here), at my home for the weekend. She explained to me, while I was following her instructions in the kitchen, on how to make the curry filling for the Roti. I cut up 1 onion, about 6 cloves of sliced garlic, some cooking oil and sauteed them in a heavy pot. When that was done, I added about 2-3 cups of diced potatoes. I added about 5 tablespoons of curry powder and some water to cover the top of everything. I cooked this at high heat till the potatoes were nearly done. Then I added about 2-3 cups of diced uncooked chicken. I let that cook, constantly stirring and tasted it. I had to add some more curry powder and salt and pepper to taste. I let this cook down till everything was cooked. I then let this cool down some to thicken on it's own. I then unrolled the Roti and heated it in the microwave, put the filling in and folded it over. I have got to tell you that it was delicious! My family and I had the pleasure of taking Mom to her Grandson's home in Hackensack, NJ where we had a glorious time cooking and eating more Trini foods! It was GREAT! ... View related article. |

The websites that Thriftyfun has posted definately has some good stuff. The description of ROTI and BUSIP SHIRT is right on the money. I have to look for the filling recipes. When my neighbor cooked the skins, I made some steel plates for them out of 1/4" plate steel around 16" in diameter. They put the steel on the range burner instead of the oven. That really worked better. It was great that I was able to be a part of their lives while they were here.

Sorry about the repeat responses. I couldn't see the post reply. I just looked at the caribseek websites. WOW I couldn't believe some of the recipes there. I did notice that the ROTI recipe didn't contain the split peas that was used by my former neighbors. I will try these when I get some time. I have been busy doing the "honeydo list". If anyone sees more websites or has their own recipes, I am STILL interested in them. Thanks again. ... View related article. |

Thank you for the recipe websites for India recipes. I have tried their version of Roti at a restaurant. It is not the same as the Trinidad version. It is quite different. I am looking for recipes from only Trinidad at this time. My former coworkers' late wife use to make them on a monthly basis. I use to buy 6 or 8 at a time and then freeze them. The ROTI is really delicious if you like Curry in your dishes. I miss eating them. I have heard that in Brooklyn, NY, there are places to buy them. I am not a NY person and don't go there. I would love to hear from a Trini to get some recipes to try making ROTI and BUSIP SHIRT. I had some great next door neighbors from Trinidad. They moved out of state and haven't had any of their great cooked meals in years. I wish they were here because they were the BEST people around! Hope someone can help. ... View related article. |

| RE: Using Carrots In Marinara Sauces |
I appreciate your responses. I will probably puree the carrots, celery, and some of the onions when I make some sauce. I will leave some of the onions minced for chunks in the sauce. I would imagine this would freeze well for a couple of months too. ... View related article. |
