RE: Tips for Painting Your Finger Nails
Only thing I would add to above is that when I learned the three stroke method, it was to do exactly the same but the outsides first and finish with stroke down the middle. I also have been doing my own nails for over 55 years and have always been complimented on them. Tried professional manicures twice and they didn't begin to compare with my own techniques. Using a "quick dry' finish gives an extra boost to my manicures, too. ... View related article.

RE: Give Savings Bonds for Christmas
We've been doing that for years, both birthdays and Christmas. We just add a very small little fun gift for something else to unwrap. The kids/grandkids are flooded with a lot more stuff than they can ever enjoy and this is also building for their futures. Years ago a co-worker told me her grandparents always had given her bonds and when she was older was able to buy a piano she couldn't have afforded otherwise and it always gave her pleasure thinking about where it had come from. ... RE: Remember To RSVP To Invitations
A suggestion I am going to follow is not put the location of the party on the invite, so only if they RSVP for further details will they be informed of where it will be. No one can drop in unexpectedly and after you have sent an invitation you certainly should not have to do a followup call if they are too rude or lazy to respond.

Our kids are planning a 50th anniversary party for us and that is what our son is planning on doing. It will be interesting to see the results. We will know who our real friends are after that! or if we have any left! ... View related article.

RE: Clothing Exchange Parties
There is a lovely gifts and accessories store in Kent, WA that does a clothing exchange about twice a year (I think since I've gone with my daughter a couple of times when visiting). There you are given coupons for the number of items you bring to "spend", one for one. That keeps it fair and you can give away some of your coupons if you don't spend them all yourself. The items not claimed are given to a local charity when it is over. The store has nice light refreshments and drawings for special items from their store. Lots of fun and goodwill and I try to purchase something from them while I'm there, too. Any group could do the same thing. I have had so many compliments on the items I've come home with, it is amazing what you find and others appear happy with what you've brought, too. ... View related article.

RE: Prepare for School the Night Before
All good ideas but I trust you are giving them a better rounded breakfast than pop-tarts. They are really "junk food". Check the label please, for your childrens sake. There are plenty of healthy options, just a quick. ... View related article.

RE: Getting Money At Anniversary Party For A Vacation
Please do not ask for money in any manner! If you want them to have a trip, give them the money you would spend on their party and send them yourselves. Any party given should not cost more than you can afford, just make it the best your budget allows. A wedding, anniversary, birthday or any party you host is for your guests, not a "gimmee" for yourself or family. I am not sure when proper etiquette went out the window, but it makes me sad that what should be a celebration of an event now demands an "admission charge". A gift given should be just that.... a gift.

We are celebrating our 50th anniversary this year, too, so congratulations to your parents. ... View related article.

RE: Getting Married Near Thanksgiving
We were married the Saturday after Thanksgiving (11/28/59) and in some years the date does land on T Day, and I have cooked, but it doesn't happen, too often, and you can just include it in what you are giving thanks for.

Actually it worked out well for us, as family and local friends were able to make it, of course it was 50 years ago this coming November, and people didn't travel as freely as they do now. We understood for those who couldn't make it. Those that are important will find a way, it isn't as though they will be expected every year to make an appearance.

We are planning our Golden Anniversary celebration for that date (it lands on a Saturday this year) and those who can make it will and those that can't, that is fine, too.

We think it was a great time to get married! ... View related article.

RE: Use Mirrors to Maximize Flowers Effect
I use CD's under votive candles for the same effect....people are amazed how much it raises the impact of the candles. Just buy some cheap ones (CD's) or do as I have, save all the "samples" that come in the mail and set aside... To cover the hole and color in the middle, for a golden anniversary I used gold legal seals. You can use any color (or silver) circle. It also helps keep the candle holder from sliding on the CD. It's a little extra work but it is nice to have all the same and looks a lot better if a candle gets moved inadvertently, too. Try this, I think you'll love the look.

RE: Decorating Tables for a Buffet
One thing I have not noticed mentioned is to NOT put the linens flat on the table. When you drape them over whatever you are using as risers be sure to "crunch/bunch" them and drape around and on top of the table. Caterers call this "crumb catchers" you don't notice to spills as readily. You use a cloth that lays over the cloth that covers the table and can turn its edges under to make it neat and attractive. This is where you can add the extra color/design you want, if you feel you need some. I hope this is clear. I don't know how else to say it. ... View related article.
