RE: Decorate With Pinecones
I agree with you on the pinecones. They can be sprayed, cut, used on packages with a glue gun. The only improvement I'd suggest is putting them in the oven at about 250 degrees for an hour. It will kill the critters, but they open so beautifully. Some cones will only open with heat, so they can reforest after a fire.

Also, sprinkled with spices and put in a basket in front of a fire is a nice fragrant touch. ... View related article.

RE: What Have You Done To Save A Penny?
When my kids were little, I used to take old jeans and clothes and make little jeans, shorts, anything that I could fit the pattern into.

Also we had Starry Night Drive-Ins. We would rent a movie, buy a little candy, put up a string of Christmas lights, and give the kids Monopoly money for the "Concession Stand" at Intermission. My kids are 26 and 29 now, and they still remember the Starry Night Drive In posters on the kitchen door.

Good times. ... View related article.

RE: Using Petroleum Jelly as a Moisturizer
My massage therapist says no NO NO! It's a petroleum product apparently. I'm not sure what you'd want to use instead. I really like Olay.

RE: Recycle Carpet to Create Flowerbed
It's a great idea under fencelines, keeping weeds from growing up where they're hard to reach. If you're in an area with a slug problem, it can be tricky.

Good idea! ... View related article.

RE: Bird Feeder Suet Recipe
I think they just like the suet itself. Be cautious of peanut butters or bacon fat, as they contain a lot of salt, and can put the birds into a premature moult. That can be deadly to them in the winter. ... View related article.

RE: Using Black Tights for Tying Plants
I've used the black on my wisteria.
Works like a charm, and lasts for about three years. Hard to see in the foliage, so win/win! ... View related article.

RE: Child Will Not Eat Hamburger Meat
The rule in our house was, you don't have to eat it if you don't like it, but you have to try it. There were always lots of extra veggies and salad. Not eating beef is not all that bad anyway.

I have a group of friends that get together every week for dinner. The people that I appreciate the most are the ones that quietly try a little, and then eat extra of the other foods. The ones that I don't appreciate are the ones that let me know how they've always hated whatever I made that they didn't like. I made sure that whatever my kids did, they were polite and quiet about their choices.

Good luck to you! ... View related article.

RE: Making Compost With Pet Waste
I wouldn't do it, not just because of the parasites, et al, but because it is likely to attract buddies, and before long, your yard is the community petty pottie. Yuck. I personally don't find it amusing when I'm planting, to find cat or dog feces on my gloves. Which, by the way, is why I ALWAYS wear gloves now!

Don't forget, you can toss dryer lint in that compost pile as well!

Good luck! ... View related article.
