RE: Buying an Old-fashioned Dust Mop
If you have an ACE hardware near you & haven't, try them. I've had some success in finding the oddball, not in high demand things there. ... View related article.

RE: Disposing of Kitchen Scraps Other Than Composting
I don't have a garden but I do have a 'compost pile'. Which is really an area by my lamp-post where I toss scraps & the birds & other critters take what they want. Guess it really depends on your yard, closeness to neighbors, etc. ... View related article.

RE: Make Your Own Cat Litter
Try to find pine wood stove pellets. They break down into a powder when they get wet, the pine helps with odor, & they cost considerably less. I add them in with the clumping litter (3/4 litter to 1/4 pine) & find I'm using about 1/2 the litter I did before (7 cats, that's a lot of litter). You can use them as all litter, but it depends on the cats. We have one litter box all pellets & the others are mixed. I try to stock up when I find them, (when we visit family in PA can always find them) as their availability can vary - I store them in empty litter containers. I've tried other wood stove pellets, but pine works best for odor control. ... View related article.

RE: Litterbox Problems With an Older Cat
Is the litterbox in the laundry room? I had a cat that kept going in the same spot - no matter how we cleaned or tried to 'redirect' the behavior, so I just put a litterbox there & haven't had any problems since. May not be ideal (ours is in the hallway), but if it's just age/behavior, it's the path of least resistance. Ah, the joy of cats.
Good luck. ... View related article.

RE: What Breed is My Dog?
You have a wonderful, loyal dog! Staffordshire Terrier is good to use if 'pit-bull' freaks people out. ... View related article.

RE: Weight Loss Tips
Do you have a dog? If you are able, adopting a dog is a great way to get exercise (walking, playing fetch, etc.) and meet people! Shelter staff/volunteers should be able to help you find a pet that's compatible with your personality and energy level. If you're not quite ready for that kind of commitment, shelters are always looking for a few good volunteers to walk dogs & help them get exercise, help out at events, etc. ... View related article.

RE: Finding Vintage Yardley Lipstick
Periodically check Ebay. I love to collect & have started selling to scale down, & in my research have seen stuff sold that amazes even me (an organized pack rat)! ... View related article.

RE: Disposing Of Old Tires
I have a neighbor who works on cars as a hobby/or for friends/family. Our MUA allows each resident to put up to four tires out on particular dates (no fee) - a few neighbors (& us) lets him put them in front of our house too when it's time. It may even be with the regular trash ( I don't really notice it until the tires appear every few months!), but they do limit the quantity per house. ... View related article.

RE: Homecoming Attire Advice
Check out some pics from different Renaissance Faire's websites too & get an idea of the look you want. You can find stuff at thrift stores easily (or maybe even your own closet!)- longish flowing skirts in tweeds/plaids patterns, etc; 'peasant' blouses (good if you go for a pirate look too!); button-up or lace vest/bodice for over the blouse; flat mary-janes, etc... My boyfriend & I dress up for pirate/ren faire stuff & that's how we get all our stuff. ... View related article.

RE: Ideas for Environmental Club Activities
Good for you! There are TONS of things you can do & if off-site activities are a possibility, being in Miami should be a good way to incorporate beach, ocean, etc. check out the Environmental Protection Agency website & the info for kids/teens/schools, etc at www.epa.gov/kids

I did a quick google search using a few key words (miami, ocean, environmental, education) and a few really cool things came up. You could try working with your club advisor/env. science teachers & contact a local organization that could help you - whether setting you up with already existing projects, stuff to start in your school, or even having someone come in to talk to the club, classes, etc.

Good luck! ... View related article.
